Enigma Machine User Reviews

German

This should not be sold in America it’s written in German too hard to understand. Do not buy I wasted my money. No instructions.

Works Great!

I was always fascinated by the Enigma Machine and this app let me experience how it felt to use it way back when. From selecting the rotors & configuring the plug board to creating coded messages, everything worked perfectly. A very well done simulation.

Poor code

Very disappointed. Thought it would be a virtual enigma machine, instead just a slightly interactive picture with links to a Wiki article.

This app is enigmatic

Thought I could use this app to create coded messages. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. The app shows what an Enigma machine looks like, but the functionality is not there. Don't waste your $1.99.

In German, but sold in US?

I have been an iOS user since the iPhone 3G. I have purchased NUMEROUS apps, countless even.

Out of that, I have never written a review because most apps are at least almost what they describe.

I wanted an enigma machine encoder/decoder and I end up with this that has partial German text.

As an iOS developer myself, localization techniques SHOULD have been used to show English text and graphics only in English speaking countries and the same for German speaking countries.

This is more of a "toy" that just shows you how an enigma machine could have worked than an actual functioning device.

Disappointing buy even if it was only $1.99

Works well.

At first I couldn't get it to work until I discovered that you need to hold down the keys until the light comes on. Kind of deceiving, because the sound comes out despite not having the key down long enough.

Other than that, it works as described. Could use more documentation on how the enigma works (rotors, plugboard, reflector). I had to install another Enigma app to learn what was really going on.

Lots of fun to play with though.

Where's my u-boat!

Fantastic app! This is the the first IOS app i've seen that makes me feel like i'm using a mechanical device rather than a game. I was a bit confused at first why the ticker wasn't working. I remembered in the movie "Das Boot" that the operator held each key for about 2 seconds, so i tried that and it worked!
Thats really the only thing this app suffers from is proper documentation about how to use it (not just documentation about its use in ww2) I shouldnt have to rely on a movie :)
Also a 4 rotor device would make this app perfect! Well done.
