3 apps in 1- Five stars
I left a 5* review when this app was first released, but that never seemed to make it to the store. The app can now work with books, audiobooks and comics. I have the app on: an iPad with comics on it, an iPad mini with epubs, and iPhone with audiobooks. Absolutely fantastic.

Your Books, Your Way
I’ll start with my one little complaint. Just one. The all-lowercase name justread makes a little spot at the back of my brain twitch. This is an app for *readers* and I can’t be the only one. JustRead, justRead, justREAD. Please?
Other that, the app is great - ridiculously customizable, works great with both my Calibre library and ODPS, syncs across devices, and the stats tab (especially the end of month summary) is very cool. Even supports audiobooks. Best of all, the developer has been *AMAZINGLY* responsive. There have been three updates adding new features and fixes (including two things I’d requested) in as many weeks. It actually has a roadmap tab to show what’s coming next (if you want to see it - did I mention how customizable the app is?).
If you’re an iOS reader, especially one that likes to maintain your own library, this is your app.
(Edit - did I mention how responsive the developer is? My one silly little complaint has been addressed in today’s update. JustRead it is.)

Finally a worthy successor to Marvin
1. A good reading experience with easy access to the look & feel of the words on the page. This is combined with control of brightness of the screen for bedtime reading
2. Adroit use of metadata to organise your library - a big tick on this
3. Synchronisation back & forth to your choice of the one true data set of your books - in my case Calibre
In the short time since I found this app and paid the full price (I hate subs), the author has improved it by leaps & bounds. He has even implemented a couple of my suggestions.
Support is wonderful - fast & helpful - bugs (aka features that do not work in the way you expect) are explained & sorted
There is also a growing list of features that are present/fixed/to be fixed/or on the list to do. You can add to this list your favourite wish - I presume that if this is sensible/has support then it will bubble up to the top of improvements.
Disclaimer - I only use this app for my ePubs, and can’t comment as to comics or PDFs
Forget the other e-reader apps - this is the one to go for

I know how hard it is to trust a new app with a library you have spent years building. I'm really pleased with the customization feedback. Also the end-of-month summary is one of my favorite parts too. And thank you for the feature requests. A lot of what's on the roadmap came from readers like you, so please keep them coming. As for the name: fair point, and you're not the only one who's mentioned it. I've added it to my list to think about (not the roadmap). Leider ziemlich gut
Interessant hingegen finde ich die Möglichkeit, mit Calibre zu synchronisieren. Also starte ich mit dem Sync: Über 4000 Bücher, 100 teils sehr große PDFs: Eine gute halbe Stunde hat es gedauert, ohne Fehler. Wow, das hätte ich nicht erwartet. Das Zusammenspiel mit Calibre ist großartig.
Es gibt viele Extras wie "Lesefortschritt" oder andere Statistiken. Das brauche ich nicht. Wie schön, dass ich das alles von der Benutzerfläche ausblenden kann.
Das Menü steht erfreulicherweise auch auf Deutsch zur Verfügung, da fühlt man sich zu Hause.
Wichtig: Die Formatierungsmöglichkeit der Epubs. Sehr umfassend und übersichtlich präsentiert. Wenn man die entsprechende Einstellung erst einmal findet, kann man auch jedes Buch einzeln formatieren. Eigene Schriften können problemlos importiert werden!
[OBSOLET! DIESES PROBLEM WURDE WIE ANGEKÜNDIGT VOM ENTWICKLER MIT V4.6 BESEITIGT: Für mich ein Negativpunkt: Wählt man den Verlagsstil (Formatierung und Typographie des Buches werden übernommen) muss man ohne Silbentrennung auskommen. Sie ist dann nicht mehr auswählbar. Das ist im Deutschen mit seinen sehr langen Wörter durchaus nachteilig. Schade, ich hätte gern öfter den Verlagsstil genutzt!?]
Ansonsten nur Lob. Die App läuft sehr flüsssig, ohne Fehl und Tadel.
Leider ist der Preis entsprechend. Ein Abo kommt für mich nicht in Frage und die hohe Einmalzahlung ist eine Wette auf die nächsten drei, vier Jahre. Ich habe noch 10 Tage Zeit zu überlegen. Leider ist die App schon ziemlich gut, das Beste, was ich in diesem Bereich getestet habe. Deshalb alle Sterne.

Exceptional app
Clean, uncluttered modern interface (fully following iOS 26 design guidelines). Plethora of options, some unavailable in any other app are strategically placed throughout the UI, without ever getting in the way, Calibre integration, excellent text-to-speech implementation, etc.
Extra points to the developer for not including telemetry/analytics or other nasties!
Very happy to have found justRead, instant purchase for me.

Finally the perfect ebook reader! (almost)
I’m not sure what’s so hard about connecting to calibre because none of these do it, which meant my library with these apps is completely disconnected from calibre. When I update metadata in calibre I have to delete and reupload on the client. Reading progress syncing with calibre is also obviously nonexistent.
This app fixes that and it is so refreshing for my client and calibre to actually talk to each other for once.
I do have a couple suggestions. I do wish there was a MacOS app. My favorite thing about Anx, Koodo, and Readest is they are completely cross platform. Android would also be great.
Second is the ability to offload books. My favorite feature of Anx Reader is that it shows you all the books on the WebDAV server, but only the cover images are stored on your device. You can download and offload books without the whole thing disappearing from your library. If this already exists, please let me know how.
Lastly, price 😅. I get that you need to make money, but I think it’s quite steep. Considering Koodo is $5 a year and Anx is less than $10 for lifetime. I would buy the lifetime immediately if it was under 40.
P.S. making this open source would be the most awesomest thing ever!!!

Hello Joe Bob Ace. Thank you very much for the review and let’s go to answers. The macOS app is in the roadmap, most voted now, so it will be done. The ability to offload books is there, but not in the way you described: if you user iCloud folder as a library for books, iOS will offload books automatically (and download when needed), like it does with all files saved in iCloud. The price was adjusted few times according to talking with the users, so thank you for the feedback on this. Have a nice day… developers :-)

Hello Selim, and thank you for the review! Good news: you can already do this. In the iOS Files app, copy your folder straight into justRead's Library folder (from wherever it currently lives), then use "Pull to refresh" in the Library. All your books will appear.

Great native reader & library management
It syncs the metadata through iCloud and lets you store your epubs yourself (managed through the files app). Just pick a folder, either local or in iCloud/dropbox etc.
In particular this seems to be the only app that really nails series based grouping in the library for self managed ePubs.
