About

Erie Live is the lake in your pocket — live freighter traffic, real conditions, fishing intel, and a daily Captain's Brief for the Great Lakes, at a glance. SIX LAKES, LIVE Every freighter, tug, and passenger vessel broadcasting AIS — across all five Great Lakes plus Lake St. Clair — gliding across the map in real time. Ships move smoothly between position reports with their actual heading, and anything that hasn't reported for 15 minutes freezes and dims instead of sailing on plausibly-but-wrong. Tap any vessel for its name, type, length, speed, heading, destination, and recent track; when a freighter is inbound, see its predicted pass. DEPTH, SOUNDINGS & A WAVE FORECAST Shade the lake by bathymetry, tap anywhere for the water depth at that spot, and switch on numbered soundings. Scrub a time slider through recent weather radar and into a clearly-labeled model forecast, and turn on the wave field to see predicted wave heights morph across the lake — a self-calibrating estimate, labeled as an estimate, that checks itself against real buoys over time. FISHING, HONESTLY Fishing spots across the lake — reefs, river mouths, and shore spots — with the species, depth, and season anglers actually care about, shown as typical patterns and never a fake "biting right now." Tap a steelhead river like the Rocky, Chagrin, or Grand for LIVE USGS flow and water temperature, updated every few minutes — the real-time signal that tells you whether the river is blown out or dropping into shape. EVERYTHING ON THE WATER Marinas with fuel and pump-out, public boat launches, yacht clubs, swim beaches, and lighthouses — the places that matter for a day on the lake, one tap away, each verified and dated. WHAT'S THAT SHIP? Point your phone at the horizon and Erie Live names the ship you're looking at — bearing, distance, direction, and speed — computed on your device. THE CAPTAIN'S BRIEF A short, plain-English morning brief written for how YOU take the lake. Pick your comfort band — Comfort, Typical, Sporty, or Shore — and it reads today's actual conditions against it: go or no-go, tonight's sunset cruise window, and predicted freighter passes. Every brief is AI-generated from real observations and labeled with when it was generated. Opt into one push a day, at 7am. REAL CONDITIONS, HONESTLY PRESENTED Waves, wind, gusts, and water and air temperature straight from NOAA buoys, the official NWS open-lake forecast, and CO-OPS water levels. Active marine alerts are shown verbatim. Every reading carries its freshness stamp; stale stations grey out and missing data shows as a dash — never a guess. BOATING FRIENDS (OPTIONAL) Sign in with Apple to boat with friends: share your live location for a set time, log your catches, record your trips, and see how you stack up on boat-class leaderboards. Every social feature is opt-in, and you can report or block anyone — objectionable content and abusive users aren't welcome. NO ACCOUNT NEEDED TO START The whole core app — map, brief, conditions, fishing, and points of interest — works with no sign-up at all. Only the social features use Sign in with Apple. A COMPANION, NOT A NAVIGATION TOOL Erie Live is for awareness and enjoyment, not navigation. Verify conditions with official sources before heading out. AIS coverage depends on shore receivers, and not every boat broadcasts AIS. Download Erie Live and know your lake.
