About
Putting four pages on one sheet, or folding a stack of paper into a booklet, is the job a print dialog pretends to do and then does badly. ExplorePDF does it properly, on your own iPhone or iPad, and gives it away.
THE THREE LAYOUT TOOLS
Normalize paper size. A document that mixes A4, Letter and Legal fights the printer every time. Normalize puts every page onto one sheet size, scaled to fit, so the whole thing prints as one job. You choose whether pages smaller than the sheet are allowed to grow, or fill the sheet and crop, or keep their own size.
Several pages on one sheet. Two or four pages per sheet, with the margin, the gutter and the reading order under your control. Sheet orientation can follow whichever way wastes less paper.
Booklet. Saddle stitch imposition, two pages to a sheet, reordered so that a double sided print folded down the middle reads in order. Longer documents can be divided into signatures so the fold stays manageable. The app names the binding edge the output was made for, because your printer has to be set to the same one, and that single setting is why most home printed booklets come out with every other page upside down.
You see the imposed result before you commit to it, not the original pages. Then save it, share it, or send it to AirPrint.
THE ORDINARY JOBS, DONE PLAINLY
Merge. Several PDFs into one, in the order you arrange them.
Split. By page ranges you type, or every N pages, or one file per page. It tells you how many pages a set of ranges will leave out before you run it.
Images to PDF. JPEG, PNG, HEIC and TIFF become one PDF, a page per image. Photographs stored sideways are placed upright.
Files you pick are opened in place, so you work on the document you chose rather than on a copy of it.
WHAT IT TELLS YOU BEFORE IT DOES ANYTHING
Normalize, n-up and booklet rebuild every page in a new document. That is what makes the layout correct, and it is also what loses form fields, link areas, the document outline and any notes or stamps. ExplorePDF counts them and warns you first, in a sentence, before you save. Merge and split copy pages instead of redrawing them, so form fields, links and annotations survive those two.
It also says when a document has no text layer, so a scan that will not be searchable is not a surprise later, and when a page's visible area is smaller than its paper.
NOTHING LEAVES YOUR DEVICE
There is no account, no sign in and no sync. The app contains no networking code at all: not disabled, absent. Your documents are opened, laid out and written back on your own device, and nothing is uploaded anywhere, including to us.
Output is never written over the top of a file you already have. If the name is taken you get a numbered one beside it, for example report 2.pdf.
SHORTCUTS
Six actions for Shortcuts, Spotlight and Siri: normalize a PDF, put several pages on one sheet, make a booklet, merge PDFs, split a PDF by page range, and make a PDF from images. They run without bringing the app to the front.
WHAT IT DOES NOT DO
No OCR. No editing page content, filling forms or applying signatures. No Word or PowerPoint conversion. Batch, which applies one layout across a folder, is on the Mac only, and the app says so where you would look for it.
Free. No advertising, no in-app purchase, no upsell.
Requires iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later.
