About

Eyefficiency lets you perform time-and-motion studies of your operating lists, keeps track of what types of patients you're operating on, and records complications during surgery. At the end of your operating list, you will have a comprehensive analysis of the timings of each phase (operating time, patient turnover time etc.), as well as your surgical training record, analysis of casemix, and analysis of complications. This app is part of a global research project to make cataract surgeries more efficient in terms of time, cost, and environmental effect. The data you upload from your operating lists in the app can be used to estimate the triple bottom line (social, environmental and ecological) of cataract and intravitreal surgeries. No guidance, diagnosis, or analysis of any factors relating to COVID are provided - the app simply acts as a diary, allowing you to record how your unit operates at this unusual time. The COVID-19 questions are entirely optional, and were designed by a panel of sustainability experts, including staff from NHS England, NHS Scotland, the UK Ophthalmology Alliance, the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare. The questions are further informed by recommendations made by Public Health England and RCOphth. For current guidance on how to respond to the COVID pandemic, you should consult your manager.

The COVID-19 questions were designed by a panel of sustainability experts, including staff from NHS England, NHS Scotland, the UK Ophthalmology Alliance, the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, and the Centre for Sustainable Healthcare. This release also fixes an issue where unit names were not always being recorded correctly. As always, please do contact us with any feedback or concerns.
