Great version, with room for updated improvement

Great remake of a classic game. One thing that would make it five stars:

2. Include the lunar trials and being able to select characters at the end similar to the GBA version would be great!

It works with backbone

Achievement glitch patched

The glitch preventing achievement completion has finally been patched alongside several other QOL updates. 🎉

Perfect

Even better than the first time I played this magical game so many years ago.

WAY TOO EASY

Zero challenge. SNES version was way more challenging, took twice as long to level up, and you had to level up to beat the bosses. You can’t walk through the 4 elemental fiends with no sweat in the SNES version like you can with this.

Redditors who claim the game was always this easy are lying. Try for yourself on SNES and see if you can beat the 4 elemental fiends with ease like you can in this version. You can’t.

This version also has the least amount of content. The 3D version is better. Way more content and it’s challenging. With the pixel remaster you are stuck with super easy difficulty and a shorter game.

Also you can’t skip cutscenes. I’m on my phone just let me skip the cutscenes.

Missing controller support

Missing controller support

Disappointed

Add the challenge dungeon and I’ll make this 5 stars

Backbone one support

This game doesn’t support the backbone one i would love to have this feature in the later dates.

Now with Controller support it rocks!

Now that this game has controller support, you can pair a PlayStation or Nintendo pro controller and it is awesome! Music is great, game is great! If you like classic RPGs, you will love this game! Highly recommended!

Fair recreation

I played this way back when it was called ff2. It seems a lot easier now than then. For some reason, elixirs aren’t showing up in my inventory. That’s a big deal when you have a lot of spellcasters in your party. Like part 3, tap mode doesn’t work with secret doors. Kind of disappointing.

Updated Review (added a star)

Previous issues that have been fixed:
Added controller support!
Cross-device game saves (previously wasn’t able to download save data that was uploaded from iPhone onto iPad version).

Still lacking:
Automatic syncing of save files in iCloud without having to remember to “upload” and “download” within the app would be ideal, and would be more consistent with most other iOS apps/games.
Still no Mac OS version. This game should be a universal (cross-platform) purchase for all apple devices (Mac OS, iOS, TV OS).

Game is good, but

The game is just how I remember, but it would be so much better if it were compatible with controllers.

Could you please include this in an update?

This was actually a good game.

Alright, some minor spoilers for gameplay bellow.

This game was the introduction to the new (at the time) way Final Fantasy handles real time back and forth battles. If there were issues in the NES version, I never had any playing through it. The whole process can be turned off but I played through it as it was and didn’t mind it after a while.

Some battles were pretty hard when you realize you don’t have 2~5 minutes to review over your abilities. These enemies can attack whenever so it does add some urgency.

Things I liked were leveling wasn’t too bad and made it easier to play through. Saw a review that said they made it easier, but as a casual player I felt it made it easier to grind if I want to and beat tough bosses I didn’t know would be randomly thrust at me.

Am I unhappy that I couldn’t play as the end characters I wanted, probably. But I will not fault this game. As a “pixel remaster” I don’t see it as some definitive edition people say it should be. I never played the FF4 3D version which probably has these things, and maybe even added or changed story beats.

The story was also pretty good, but I’ll forgive them that it wasn’t the end all be all standout. This game does great with revitalizing what it should.

The game took me even longer to beat than FF3 which is not unexpected. There was a lot of additional content I didn’t expect as well. I’m curious if I missed anything but all in all, great game. Would recommend playing just to experience it if nothing else.

Not on par with other versions

I LOVE the original Final Fantasy games so you can only imagine how happy I was to learn about these new versions. In good faith I bought the whole FF Pixel Remaster bundle.
I was immediately upset to see there was no controller support. When I went online to see if an update was pending, I was dismayed to find out that not only has there NOT been an update in ages, but the PS4 and Switch versions have alternate music tracks, no encounter mode, and an EXP boost mode!

As a family man with a rather busy schedule, those last two features would have been extremely welcome.

I’m unfortunately going to issue request for a refund. Hopefully someday Square will find it in there hearts to make all versions have the same feature set.
