Delete and reinstall again

When it gets stuck on "downloading updates," quit the app, then find the app on the homescreen and delete it with a long press and then select "delete." Then come back to App Store, and download it again to give it another try. Worked for me.

Downloaded the app. When it opened, the entire screen was ghosted with a note ‘checking for updates’ and was completely dead.
