About
First Not Last is sailboat racing as it's done on the water: umpired match races and team races, where the wind, the right-of-way rules and a good start decide who wins.
LEARN TO SAIL
New to sailing? Seven short lessons, a minute or two each, and no account needed: steering, reading the wind, the fastest angles upwind and downwind, slowing down, penalty turns, match-race starts and match-race penalties.
SAIL IT FOR REAL
• Hold ◀ or ▶ to steer and hold the boat button to slow down. The sails trim themselves, so it all comes down to where you point.
• Boat speed depends on your angle to the wind. Find the best VMG upwind and downwind, then tack and gybe on the shifts.
• The breeze shifts, and gusts show as dark patches on the water.
• Every sail casts a wind shadow. Sit in another boat's dirty air and you slow down.
RACE BY THE RULES
• Right of way, room at the marks and starting early are all judged on the water.
• Foul another boat and you owe a penalty turn. Leave it too long and you're disqualified.
• Match races come with umpire flags and match-race penalties, as in real umpired racing.
RACE REAL PEOPLE
• Unranked matchmaking for 1v1 match races and 2v2 or 3v3 team races.
• Add friends, invite them to your lobby and race on the same team.
• Custom races: public or password-protected, with a windward-leeward or Digital N course, match or team racing rules, and up to four boats a side.
• Your nationality flag shows next to your name.
• Report or block any sailor in a tap. Players must be 18 or older.

What's New in First Not Last
1.0.8
October 14, 2026
• Competitions: enter a team in a round robin and race the other teams back to back. • Polls in the app. • Wind shadow downwind: on a run your dirty air now falls straight behind you, and dinghies throw more of it off the wind. • Leaving a ranked race after mark 2 no longer costs you a penalty. • Finding friends by name no longer cares about capital letters.
