Rough
I'm glad the iOS version exists at all, and I genuinely like the layout of the app itself, but man, it's really missing some features that are pretty crucial to how I watch videos on my phone. There's no background playback, and no Picture in Picture support, which are both compounded by the fact that the app doesn't remember how far into a video you've watched when you need to put the phone down for a bit. AirPlay support is extremely rudimentary when trying to play to a different platform to avoid the phone problems. The comments section doesn't even scale to use the whole display when watching a video!
Additionally, there are occasional strange technical hiccups -- right now, for example, all recent videos are showing as having a length of 0:00.
The app just feels rough around the edges and unfinished, which is unfortunate because the service itself is fantastic. Being able to directly support creators and get a video feed in return is lovely, the actual video is high bitrate to a point where 1080p sometimes looks better than the competition's 4k, and I've had zero issues with buffering or failing to load.
I just wish they could improve the app experience to bring it up to par with even other small services like Nebula.

Needs a lot of work
On the iPhone and iPad, closed captions are small and difficult to read. I can’t use the spacebar to play/pause with a keyboard. Orientation is very… confusing. I want it to stay in landscape if my iPad is in landscape. It’s difficult to read posts (not videos), as they take up most of the screen. It would be great if the video continued playing in the little window when the app is switched away from. Finally, simple navigation needs a lot of work. I’m not sure how to qualify it, but it really needs to work properly.

Doesn’t work
Made an account and confirmed it in the browser and logged in successfully. On the app it says the account isn’t activated, glad I checked before paying anything
It gets the job done
It plays video, navigates the content I want to watch, and notifies me. I would love to see background play be enabled and/or Picture in Picture be implemented. I often listen to a lot of the more podcasty formed stuff when I go for a walk or ride my bike and I’d like to have the screen off.

Can’t Scrub Video
Why, for all things holy can I not just tap the progress bar at the bottom and scrub through videos? It’s the most ridiculous thing that I can’t do this especially when I used to be able to use that feature. Double tapping to move forward or back a static amount of seconds is also a good feature but holy cow! Let me scrub through the video via the progress bar!!!!!

Could use some work
I would love to have Picture in Picture! If I want to use PiP, I have to watch in a browser, which is definitely not as good as the app. It also does not seem to want to AirPlay on my TV, even though my phone is able to connect to said TV via AirPlay. Please fix those two things and then I’ll rate 5/5!!!

Slow and unresponsive
The app on iPad feels slow and it’s unresponsive, having to click on a video multiple times before it recognises it or sometimes needing to close and reopen the app.
Adding download option for offline viewing on the app should be included too.

Unusable without pip/background play
The content may be good, but without having “modern” features that every other streaming service has like Picture in Picture and background play, this app is useless. Would rather use any other app to watch video on than this. Clearly the developers do not care about iOS and can’t be bothered to fix something that everyone else has solved.

Not good
App needs basic features like background play and PIP. Yeah sure maybe it’s technically apples fault or a small dev team or whatever but this is not a problem on any other small creator platforms
Fine app but…
Unfortunately since I’ve upgraded to a 17 Pro Max it consistently heats my phone up to uncomfortable levels and after a while it will crash/force close the app. No other app I use or game I play does this so I’d assume it’s something to do specifically with the Floatplane app unfortunately. Would love for this to be fixed.

FYI iPadOS 26 Broke Stuff
Bug 1 Repro: Scroll videos like under FP Exclusives and behaves like touch is disabled in big horizontal blocks across the screen (can’t click/tap to watch a video without scrolling it into the touch enabled space eg. at the bottom) Bug 2 Repro: Try watching a video in landscape, when it finishes and you try to go back by tapping the full screen button in bottom right, the entire app becomes a hovering window and the close button in the top left is covered by the MacOS style red yellow and green buttons for maximise/minimise/close

App has lots of bugs
When I cast to my tv half of the time it works and I don’t have any problems. But sometimes it displays an image and plays audio but the video keeps freezing for sometimes up to a minute before it plays one frame and freezes again. I also can’t move the timeline on a video to go to a specific point in the video, it takes me out of the video.

Finally got a good deal on a LTT sub. Just WISH I could download directly in the app instead of using the website!! ALSO Wish it had PiP support!!!
Buggy
Love the content (The Trash Network) but the app is super buggy. You can't scrub through videos. Some videos don't respond to clicks.

When the app first came out it was really stable but over time its become a bit buggier especially with the upgrade to IOS26 and IPhone 17
I’m sure these are all known but:
1. Minimized videos show the file name not the title (maybe intentional??)
2. Scrubbing often doesn’t work and doesn’t register any touch’s or drags
3. Videos can stall when network speed is slow and won’t pick back up.
4. Swapping in and out of the app can lead to a black screen that only disappears when you manually close the app.
5. Push Notifications aren’t always delivered
6. Loading indicators will disappear while still loading.
7. Swapping out of the app can lose any video content that was buffered and loaded but still has UI elements that indicate the video has been loaded.
I know pushing IOS updates is a pain but I feel like some of these should be relatively easy fixes.
