What's New in Moonfin

2.2.0

June 19, 2026

Moonfin 2.2.0 Apple TV now shares the same codebase as iPhone, iPad, and Mac, so every platform moves forward together. This release brings major playback, audio, and interface work to all of them. Apple TV • Native MPVKit player with a full on-screen display: trickplay scrubbing, track and quality pickers, cast and crew, next-up card, pause overlay, speed and zoom, and subtitle styling • Native Dolby Vision Profile 7 decode with HDR and Dolby Vision direct play advertised only when your display actually supports it • Live TV, SyncPlay, Still Watching, skip intro and skip credits iPhone and iPad • Headphone auto-pause when AirPods or wired headphones disconnect, plus iOS media key fixes • Watch progress now syncs between offline and online so resume points stay consistent • Smarter audio fallback with Maximum Audio Channels and Audio Fallback Codec, so multichannel content no longer collapses to stereo when transcoding • Absolute file paths now migrate automatically after an app update Mac • TV Mode (Expanded Home Rows) is a new feature on desktop, with mouse-wheel snapping when scrolling goes idle • Sidebar fixes for collapsed and expanded states and Neon Pulse colors • Artwork Selector via secondary click, backspace mapped to back navigation, and graceful shutdown • Updates now open the per-platform download directly instead of the old in-app installer Everywhere • New Theme Store, UI scaling on all devices, and an Artwork Selector for changing item artwork • Refreshed music home screen, favorite Collections, per-user settings, and a navbar mini player • Many playback, subtitle, and audio switching fixes

Nice

A great client. Lots of active development and improvements.

Response from developer

Hello! This was fixed in v2.2.0 as it was mentioned in the proper GitHub issues location as well as addressed in the community discord. Have a great weekend!

Emby Connect not Working

Just used the same creds from logging into Emby on the web as I did on the app and the app is telling me it’s invalid

Really nice app

App feels really smooth and the updates to fix issues is very appreciated. You also get to really customize everything about it. From app themes, layouts, home bar, navigation, etc. if you have at least 2 brain cells you can easily figure it out. Thanks for a great app!!

Used to be my go-to

Pros: Will play pretty much any kind of file without a sweat on Apple TV 4K 3rd gen. Because of this it used to be my go-to app over any of the alternatives for tvOS.

Cons: Ever since the last update contrast/colorspace has been broken, causing blacks to appear washed-out. This issue affects all video files regardless of codec, original colorspace etc. Sadly I can no longer use this app unless I want the experience of watching movies on a cheap LED TV on my OLED.

Multiple issues have been posted to the GitHub about this and I’m yet to see dev input on any of them, so I’m not sure if this is something that will be fixed anytime soon.

Mild Nuances

Love the ui and overall look, downloads play only audio and no video so it’s not the best for offline viewing.
