Did just what I needed it to, making a font for my comic. I cannot imagine having to code this in any other form, and I love being able to do it from my iPad. I wish the in app purchase was clearer, because I have no idea where it is or what it does, but the app by itself is fine for what I need!
Quick, fun, creative, inspiring and cheap at half the price. Pay the money and choose this.
I admit I thought font design was dull and laborious. It really was when I was younger, but now with Fontself it is actually really enjoyable and incredibly quick to come up with new ideas. I never liked using standard fonts in my art and now I can use my own.
Also, when I got stuck I used the message feature in the app and I had quick, helpful replies that fixed my problem. Great backup support and worth every penny.

Almost perfect
I wish I could import SVG or PNG of glyphs I created in other design apps. As of now it’s only possible to trace. However this is not a design app. It’s only meant for handwriting and simple shapes. I need a lot more control over the glyphs. This is why I use another app, like Affinity Designer (or Affinity). It would be amazing if this great app could recognize and accept images or SVGs as native shapes.

M5 iPad, Still Can’t Use This! Get iFontmaker Instead!

I thought maybe after all this time they would have fixed this ludicrous problem. But, nope! Just let me use the app I paid good money for! I’m already signed into my Apple account, I can’t get any more signed in if I tried. If you’re like me and this app keeps asking you to sign in Apple, even though you are already. Well, just use the font creating app - iFontmaker, instead. It doesn’t put up a wall trying to steal your Apple account data.
You buy iFontmaker for one price, it create fonts easily with many cool and different brushes and then you are also easily able to export and create your original fonts to use in any app you want. I was excited to try a different font creating app with this, it’s always fun and neat to have different choices I think. Yet, I cannot even enter this app! Bang! First thing is a window that pops up saying sign into my Apple account! I am! I’m here to create hand drawn fonts on my iPad. What does signing into my Apple account have to do with that?! I’m obviously signed into my account or I wouldn’t have been able to waste money buying this app! You know what happened after I bought the better font creator app, iFontmaker, forever ago? I paid the developer for their hard work and time and I clicked on the app to open it, and, tada! It actually let me enter the app I paid hard earned money for and actually use it! It was amazing! It didn’t rip me off and instead ask me to sign into my Apple account that I’m already signed into. You still have not fixed this massive problem. I’m getting a refund.

I’m still greeted, first thing, with a window telling me that I need to sign into my Apple account that I’m already signed into. No I’m not on a family account. I’m the only one who owns and uses this iPad. I only have one Apple account and as shown from the very top of the Settings app, I’M SIGNED INTO MY APPLE ACCOUNT! This app is not programmed correctly or it is trying to steal people’s Apple sign-in information. Those are the only two options for what is going on here in my opinion.
Again, just buy and use the app - iFontmaker - instead. You’ll thank me and thank yourself and you won’t be greeted with a barrier telling you to sign into your Apple account that you’re obviously already signed into! Unbelievable! Wasted money! It says “Sign Up with Apple” but does not let me sign into my Apple account. It just says “Settings.” I click that and, of course, I’m already signed into my Apple account like always. Which can only mean, like I said, that this app ridiculously demands that I have iCloud turned on. I don’t use iCloud. I have real and reasonably priced cloud services such as Dropbox and Box. There’s no reason for me to ever have iCloud turned on.
Why would you not just offer an option to get into the app for folks who don’t use iCloud. I feel so ripped off right now. I paid good money for this application and I even just saw whatever the “FUN Pack” was and was even considering buying the IAP when I got into the app. Even on top of what I paid to buy this app to begin with. But i cannot do anything because I’m forced to sign into iCloud or some madness. Why can you not just let me use the app I paid for please?????? This is ridiculous and maddening. iFontmaker does not ask me to sign anything. I open that app and I’m right into creating and exporting my own hand created fonts into whatever I want to use them in. Would you please update this app very soon so that those of us who choose to not use iCloud can please just use this program that we paid for? Thank you if you would. It's worth the price.
Fontself is really well designed, easy to use but also deep. There are plenty of apps out there for turning your handwriting into a font, this one goes so far beyond that. You can create conventional printing fonts, like serif and sans serif. If you want to do a type family you'll still want to get onto a computer for those professional programs (Fontographer or whatever), I'm not seeing any way to adjust the guides for drawing, say, an italic font, so that leaves a lot of room for inconsistency.
That takes us to request #1: Adjustable guides. Mainly I want a way to create fonts with a smaller x-height but you might want to adjust for something different. For instance, it would also be nice to have vertical guides for letter width and adjustable slope (for that italic).
#2: A manual and detailed tutorials. The app is seemingly so simple it needs little explanation. On the surface, yes, it is. But there are hidden editing tools that most how-to YouTubers never even mention. Not everyone is familiar with vector graphics.
Request #3: Being able to navigate with one finger. When I try to scroll with two fingers the grid is twisting and resizing like crazy.
I'm sure there are other desirable improvements. I am not in any way a type designer so I really don't know what else they could work on. Regardless, it's a great app.

Can you add an option where you can add any unicode characters?
Good but NOT free
While the app is nice, you can’t actually use a font unless you buy it. The developer says they don’t know how they could be more clear since there’s a pop up offering the sale and it’s on the App Store listing. You could be more clear by saying what you can and can’t do. Not being able to use the font at all is kind of a big deal. Obviously a free version will have less features or less times you can do something vs a paid one, but not being able to use it AT ALL is a huge thing to not mention and then just shrug and say “what can we do”. If you’re going to buy an app, being able to compare to other paid apps is necessary, instead of thinking you’re testing a trial version and getting snuck into having to pay to use. Just be up front dudes.

Listen…I love fontself..they have open up the world of font making to many and have innovated more than this app and I am happy to be able to support them on this project and know it will be stellar. Their software for photoshop and illustrator are also fantastic and they offer great support
So glad I found this app!!
I’ve always loved lettering and calligraphy, but I found ‘writing’ in my designs in photo editing software to be a frustrating exercise…. Then I discovered Fontself and have had so much fun creating my own fonts that I can use in the programs. It means I can create my own fun fonts to suit my projects, as well as the major benefit of taking out the worry about licensing on fonts I’ve purchased! It’s fairly easy to navigate, the brush settings help with creating different styles.

best font app ever! truly mind blowing! beats every competitor. i am an old graphic designer, been around since Fontographer, and this app, Fontself, i’ve never experienced any font app so impressive!

This app is so easy to use and captures more than just one for a one-time fee of $19.99. This app is worth that fee and more. If you’re serious about making your own font then you definitely must try this one. The others don’t give you the freedom or licensing/copyright abilities. I am loving this app! Thank you Fontself!

Can’t sign in
It says Sign in with Apple, but everytime I click it, something pops up saying "Your Apple account cannot be used to create accounts for other apps"

i wish this app was around years ago - it’s crazy how intuitive and streamlined the functions are, i mean you no longer need design skills to make a usable typeface! fontself takes all of the hard stuff out of the equation and makes you look good. yay.
