Fun Game, but…

I wish that they allowed for the player to grind to unlock everything, rather than stuff it behind a paywall. While a very fun game, this dissuaded me from continuing on as I knew I could only get so far.

Entertaining but incomplete

I like the game and it has good flow, but the animations can be a bit slow, which wastes time. There’s also several things that are “to be released”. I’m not going to pay seven or eight dollars for a game that only has content to be released.

Really enjoying this game!

I really like the presentation. The Skeleton card dealer gives me that Inscription game feel. Here is a suggestion. Have his eyes glow and blink in the background or have his head peak out of the darkness, looking at the card(s). Bone rattling sounds while he is waiting for you to select a card might add some extra atmosphere.

Combat is fun as each ability card has two skills.
Gaining more sides on the dice gives you opportunities to use the higher numbered skills.
You really need to go through all of the possible options in your mind when you start to face two or three enemies at a time.

With the money you gain during a run, you can upgrade the warrior’s stats, improve your dice roll chances, increase money earned.

By completing a certain amount of runs or killing various monsters, you can unlock other weapons which give you new abilities to play with.

Two locations are available to play, in the paid version, with two more on the way.

If you love grinding and upgrading your character, you should enjoy Fortunes of Battle.

Has potential but needs work

I really want to like this game. Has a great aesthetic and fun gameplay. But it's riddled with issues. The pixelated, low detail, washed out, low frame rate look of the enemies doesn't match the look of the richly colored, high contrast look of the environment or the 3D look of your weapon/shield. Sometimes runs will start without all your upgrades. Sometimes the camera will get knocked back so you end up seeing your character's arms in front of your weapon and shield, including the holes in the model where the arms end. The tutorial doesn't explain enough, in particular how you unlock the super attack (need to block three times). The descriptions of the various upgrades in the skill tree are confusing or don't explain enough (for example, the dice upgrades say they add extra dice slots, but the first three just upgrade your existing dice, not add more). Descriptions for in game skills need to be better too, and costs don't seem balanced compared to results (like Armor Break costs 3x as much its base attack Heavy Strike but only damages armor and less of it than the damage done by Heavy Strike! Unless Armor Break is designed to hit multiple enemies? But it doesn't say that).
Sometimes the skeleton will offer his hand out with gold in it, making it seem like he's offering you the money, but he's actually offering to TAKE the money in exchange for something (usually a health potion when you're nearly dead that doesn't really help because it doesn't give you enough health to survive the next battle, so you're really just giving away your coins). The music is pretty repetitive and basically just a beat, no melody or harmony - gets old quickly. Sound fx for the creatures could definitely be better and more varied. I think the rng is messed up - I've only ever gotten something once when the skeleton holds out his hands to have me choose (and I've probably done it at least 10x), and one time I got two 1s on two 4 sided dice, rerolled, got the same, rerolled again, and got the same again (odds of getting that are 1 in 4096)! When I do bleeding damage to an enemy, it takes off his armor first, but when enemies do bleeding damage to me, it takes off health directly. Animations were pretty slow, but at least a recent update added an option to speed them up. If all of this is fixed, this could easily be a 5 star game (and I'd be willing to buy the full game), but not in its current state.
