Worthless

I am stuck with a Friday home lock that I can’t set up because the app won’t do anything. Absolutely worthless app. Do not buy a Friday home lock, ever. The developer(s) don’t know how to program and/or maintain working servers.

Servers ALL DOWN! Worthless!

Servers always down! Can not use lock with no server contact. Cant add lock or add to homekit. Just a piece of junk metal without developers support! Absolute garbage!

Great lock

I love this lock; it’s always worked. The app not so much. Actually, I don’t remember what the app is for since it no longer works without creating a login on some internet server. But the lock works with HomeKit over Bluetooth so I can lock/unlock with my iPhone just fine without it.

Worst ever

I been an owner since kick start and over the year the app keeps getting worst . The lastest update doesn’t let me log in either by phone or email . I can’t even create an email because there’s a server error. On my computer, the browser tells me the server is not found. What’s is going on ? If I could give it - negative stars I would . I tried resetting the lock like support suggest before the last app update and now I can’t do anything with the lock . It only works with my hand . Great

Do NOT buy this

This is your warning. If you’ve already bought it, return it. While this lock looks great and it’s super sleek it doesn’t function as it needs to.

The WiFi feature works whenever it feels like it. It’s such a headache! Many times I walk away thinking it will lock and end up having to come back because if I’m not in front of it I won’t work. Awful experience, do not get this.

Read: Very Important

I’m writing this for people who are looking into buying a Friday Lock and still might feel a little hesitant. Perhaps you are like me, someone who found out about Friday and instantly fell in love with it’s gorgeous design. And let’s be honest here, to date there is no smart lock that looks quite this good.

But maybe then, after a little research, you read some concerning things about this lock. That it was buggy, that not all the features worked quite as advertised, that it was under developed and worse, unreliable. Is all of this true? (Take a deep breath). The simple answer is: Rest easy, the Friday lock works EXCELLENTLY.

So why the history of less than excellent reviews? Unfortunately, those early reports of bugginess, installation pains, and app mayhem—they weren’t wrong. I was an early and enthusiastic adopter of this product. And to the credit of Friday, in many ways, they did deliver. Obviously lacking the immense resources of a giant like August, they brought their genius to bare on a host of problems facing the modern smart lock and solved them with ingenuity and grace. But bugs and kinks?—my good Jesus, there were many. Not only did certain promised features miss launch, but responsiveness, connectivity, and cooperation with homekit simply lacked consistency from user to user, update to update, install and reinstall.

But the Friday team, my god, they are the little engine that could! They never stopped, never gave up. While I for sure became a bitter skeptic, I did always notice and appreciate that Friday was always releasing app and firmware updates—significant updates, regularly, with honest and detailed release notes. Battery life would be improved, homekit compatibility (huge given the development history of homekit itself), connection improved (took time, but they made WiFi + Bluetooth feasible, then smooth), and of course, the once feature thin app eventually rounded out. Friday, you nailed it.

Why did I write this? Friday deserves credit. And though I’m sure this belated recognition and praise will only continue to grow, I wanted to be on the front end of that. I’ve invested in enough failed Kickstarter startups to know these disruptive smart gadget products don’t always bloom, despite good intentions, despite pretty designs, despite innovative ideas.

So. You’re in the market for a smart lock and you’ve heard about this company Friday promising a sleek and clever approach to the smart lock. You’re smart (it’s why you’re attracted to the Friday lock), and smart people research before buying. The question. Friday Lock: real deal or overhyped flash in the pan? My answer: the realest deal, with the scars to prove it. Go get it.

*embarrassed emoji* Now I just have to sell off the August lock I mayyyyyy have bought at a very low point. Oops.
