What's New in GeoKit

1.5

July 26, 2026

The compass, rebuilt — one-step strike & dip. • ONE-STEP MEASUREMENT — Lay your phone flat on the rock surface in any orientation. Strike, dip, and dip direction are captured together and auto-lock when stable. No aligning, no two-step workflow. • TRUE NORTH — Magnetic declination is now corrected automatically from your GPS position using the World Magnetic Model — even offline. Look for the green TRUE N badge. • UTM COORDINATES — Prefer zone/easting/northing? Switch to UTM format in Settings. Live GPS coordinates are now shown right on the measurement screen. • CUSTOM MAP LAYERS — Add any WMS/WMTS or XYZ tile service (like your national geological survey) from Map Layers → Add Custom Layer. • BETTER EXPORT & BACKUP — Exports now include markers, field notes AND strike & dip measurements together, with true-north data and photos. Round-trip safe (GeoJSON/KML/CSV), reads Google Earth KML, and a new Field Bundle packs everything — data and photos — into one restorable file. Choose exactly what to export (by type and date range), and preview any import on a map before it lands. • PDF FIELD REPORT — Turn your fieldwork into a shareable, branded PDF: a title & description you write, an auto-written summary, a numbered station map on a real satellite basemap, a strike rose diagram, and every record with its data and photos. Settings → Field Report (PDF). • FIELD NOTEBOOK, REDESIGNED — A clean date-grouped journal of everything you record. Tap any entry — markers, notes, strike & dip — for full details with photos, then edit or delete it right there. Full editing for every entry type. • STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS — See your structure at a glance. A new interactive stereonet (equal-area), strike rose diagram, and dip histogram are computed from your strike & dip measurements and fault markers, with live stats and a tap-to-read pole tool. Field Notebook → chart icon. • ACCOUNTS & BACKUP — Create a free account (email) to back up your field data to the cloud and recover it if you reinstall or switch phones. Your work still starts instantly as a guest — upgrade anytime from Settings → Account. • FIXES — The black screen after saving a strike & dip measurement is gone. Back button no longer hides under the status bar, location permission now works correctly on iOS, better guidance on devices without a compass sensor, and a new first-use tutorial. Field-tested with feedback from working geologists — thank you to everyone who wrote in. Keep it coming from Settings → Send Feedback.

User reviews

Yes! So close to being the perfect all in one tool!

I’ve sent a few bug reports and feature suggestions to the team, but even with those quirks, this app is incredibly useful. It offers way more convenience than any other combination of tools I've tried for field data collection. Highly recommend!

Great work

Location setting on and never succeed to activate GPS (other apps ok)
Earthquake and compass info ok.

Still complain for Privatyacht Location

I keepposition danger outbound involviert Not Option to Negligee

Does not work

App locks up before fully configured. None of the “Contact” links work so can’t get help.

Response from developer

What geological measurements can GeoKit take?

GeoKit can measure strike and dip using your phone's sensors, and provides a digital clinometer for accurate slope angle measurements. It offers precise geological orientation data for field use.

How does GeoKit track altitude?

GeoKit uses a barometric altimeter for real-time altitude readings based on atmospheric pressure. It also includes a GPS altitude fallback and supports elevation tracking for field surveys.

Can I use GeoKit offline?

Yes, GeoKit is designed to be offline capable, allowing you to download maps and store data locally even in remote field locations without internet access. Cloud sync is available when you reconnect.

What geological data can I export from GeoKit?

You can export your field data in several common GIS formats, including KML, GeoJSON, and CSV. This makes your data compatible with popular software like QGIS, ArcGIS, and Google Earth.

Does GeoKit provide earthquake information?

Yes, GeoKit includes real-time USGS earthquake data displayed on an interactive seismic map. You can also opt-in for push notification alerts for earthquakes.

What devices does GeoKit support?
