Much better than the new one

The listening only mode is the USP of this app. Simple and easy to use, no frills just proper language learning.

Keep at this method and you see progressive results

Simple and Effective

Glossika Legacy has been remarkably effective for learning Turkish: after more than a year of consistent use, my native-Turkish-speaking wife has been impressed by my progress. Its strength is its simplicity, the algorithm tells me what to learn and review, and I can concentrate on listening and doing lots of repetitions. The app isn’t flashy, but the combination of native audio, spaced repetition, clear daily goals, and visible long-term progress works extremely well. I hope Glossika preserves this learning workflow as it develops its new platform.

Best language app for runners

This is a counterpart to my negative review of the new version of Glossika. As a long distance runner who regularly runs alone outside for long periods of time but also wants to keep a regular language-learning habit, this is absolutely the best solution. I love being able to listen, repeat out loud, and even record myself while running with my phone strapped to my arm. I can adjust the settings to include more delay before hearing the target sentence and when data is an issue, I can download content and listen offline. What doesn’t make this review a five is the still too frequent mistakes in the transcriptions (particularly frustrating when I type the sentences in Japanese where the entry can include a mixture of kanji or hiragana) and it’s still not clear how the “review queue” corresponds to the offline downloadable content. Newest? Weakest memory?

More controls please

I really like the speech and listening aspect of this app. It would be really useful to allow the user to control the speed of progress, ie. control when we can jump ahead to the next phrase during a session, or back arrow to allow going back to the previous sentence. Some phrases require less time but other more difficult ones require more. This will vary between people. Currently the timing is too inflexible. Also pause needs to be just a real pause and not repeating the whole phrase again. This would make it so much more user friendly.

Problem with the Placement Test

I took the French placement test twice and I clearly answered the B2 high-level question correctly, the both time it ended up placing me in A1 low!! Can’t use it.

Fix bugs

Yo developers, use the app by yourself and fix bugs

Gets me to be consistent

I love this method because it's exactly what I needed to be consistent. HOT TIP: DONT TAKE THE EXAM EVEN IF YOU KNOW THE LANGUAGE ALREADY.

I wanted something speech-only that was easy to start. Will this make me fluent? Obviously no, it must be paired with other language tools just like any other language tool, but I can do this while getting ready in the morning or going on walks or on my commute. I'm doing Spanish and my boyfriend is doing Cantonese, and he's actually gotten so good at this difficult language in one year, he was making sentences while we were talking to my relatives! And he sounds so accurate.

Could there be more features? Yes. But I am happy the most that this lets me be consistent which is the most important part of language learning. I think this is the best used after a little bit of instruction such as using Pimsleur Cantonese in my boyfriends case or my public school Spanish learning in my case.

Extremely buggy

Even the cancel subscription button is broken. Very sloppy product.

Ridiculous concept. Does not work

Repeat, Repeat, Repeat-waste of time and money- not even clear audio.

WRONG TRANSLATIONS

Vietnamese translations are straight up incorrect

Not really a important language learning

I’m learning random sentence, like I wanna learn about how to interact with other people, in schools and places, but all it gives is “She doesn’t go to bed” or “she has” and won’t let me go back, why not make a dictionary section if you’re gonna teach me random words?

Total daneben

Can’t cancel subscription

I can’t cancel the subscription!!! The button is unresponsive

Once you figure the settings out it works

Changing my review from 1 to 5. Had some issues that were amplified by the AI BS general support and lack of FAQs and support explanations of the settings.

Sent a rant to the support group that explained some of the problems and received a reply from a real person and began a useful conversation.

The real tech support person found some settings to change and that prompted me to look at the issues from a new perspective and help get the app working the way I wanted. I wanted to emphasize pronunciation and that is possible if the app is configured correctly.

IMO, the settings are overly complicated and the explanations and FAQs are non-responsive and mostly nonexistent. The AI first line response serves only to discourage and piss off new users, which explains the low scores on usefulness. But if you persist you may well find how to make the app useful for you.

Bad faith cancellation system

The app worked fine, but when it came time to cancel, it was clear the system is designed to simply frustrate any effort to cancel. I began online and was told I had to switch to the app to cancel. I tried to cancel in the app, and after it asked me for the third time if I was sure, the “yes, cancel” button would not work and was simply stuck. I had to go back online to ask for help and was told that since all of these efforts had failed I would need to cancel from my device settings - because Glossika had NO ABILITY to allow me to cancel.
