Good idea poorly executed
Out of 8 products scanned they didn’t recognise 7 - and these are not obscure items. The one item they did recognise was cathedral city cheese which the app said contains gluten. I checked on the cathedral city website and they say their products do not contain gluten. So even the one product it found was inaccurate. The developers say they have 150,000 items stored in their database, this apparently is just not enough.
Last thing - why do you make it so difficult for us to report an item to you for you to better improve the app. Why do you need my name email etc, surely just sending the product barcode to you is enough for the item to be added? No need to make things complicated and put people off helping improve ur app.
In a nut shell the app is rubbish
Response from developer
Leave Feeback is very easy, please use it. Unlike other apps, you don’t need to login every time you open our app. We need your email to reply the users who need technical assistance or ask for more information. On another hand, the website of Cathedral City can be useful but the law requires to put the “Gluten Free” label on the packaging of every product 🙂 Thanks in advance!
Life saver
Seriously?
It didn’t even recognise Philadelphia Cheese ffs! Seems to me that they’ve brought it to the UK from the US but forgot to update the database to UK foods.
Update: the developers contacted me regarding my review and, and to be honest, were very professional in explaining the current situation with the app. I have therefore updated my review to reflect their professionalism. App is still not great but I guess it will improve with time.
Response from developer
We have items of Philadelphia, but not all. The free app is completely functional, please scan more products 🙂 Our database contains over 150,000 unique food products commonly found in the UK stores. We are adding new products daily. After scan a product not recognized, please use the "Leave Feedback" button. We will receive automatically the barcode number and we will try to check. Thanks in advance!
Baffled...
Does the full version recognise more products? So far, most things I've tried to find out about have not been recognised. The ones that have been recognised, all say "gluten-free" on their packaging anyway, so an app is not actually needed - I was just trying to find something the app would recognise.
Plus there's another free app from Coeliac UK which I haven't tried.
What is the difference between the three versions (two free and one paid)?
Edit (response to Developer): Apologies for getting your app confused with the Coeliac UK offerings. I've deleted both anyway, as I find most GF foods nowadays are already labelled "Gluten Free" very prominently, and often are all shelved together in a dedicated GF or Free From section in supermarkets.
Response from developer
Our app doesn't have any kind of relationship with the Coeliac UK Foundation.
Didn’t some things, but great customer support 👍
The ones it didn’t know, you can click “send feedback” and it sends the company the barcode to update the system.
