Was really good till they added a subscription
Before they added a subscription, you could make a one-time payment to unlock everything —which I did —but now they've switched to a subscription and taken away what I unlocked with that one-time payment—such a scam. I hate how every app has now moved on to subscriptions. I would be much happier with a one-time payment

Surprisingly versatile and colorful!
UPDATE 7/15/26 OkieDokie!, OkieDokie!, I did get used to the new interface and now typing is easy. It’s become second nature to tap the Read Only and begin editing. I jumped the gun on my last update. Still the best Note Taking app. Very versatile!
UDATE: recently Good Notes changes its’ interface and is frustrating and difficult to use. I can’t just open a note and type.
Considering deleting my account. Disappointed.
ORIGINAL: I was forced to switch note apps when my favorite app chose to stop free users. I chose Goodnotes because it appeared easy to use and delightfully colorful. Imagine my surprise when I began moving my notes and stored info over to Goodnotes! Astonishingly versatile, delightfully colorful, well planned and wonderfully complete with choices of Notebook Covers, Folders and pages! I can even import my own pictures as folder or notebook covers. Works great.
Yes, I had to pay for it but the $29.99 LIFETIME Subscription was so easy to choose. Worth it!

You can make notecard with pictures and label them, download pdf and big ones with the premium, and easily. Today I downloaded a big pdf and it messed up some stuff on the pdf. Only happened this one time
Annoying App
I DO NOT want Goodnotes 6. Please stop interrupting my work by constantly pushing me to upgrade in the middle of working.
Bad syncing
Sync between Mac and iPad Both using the Goodnotes app from the App Store with sync turned on however it takes the app AGES to sync its terrible especially since this is a paid app with substribtions
Doesn’t Need AI; wish it just stuck to handwriting
Love the basic writing tools and ability to recognize and search your handwriting. GenAI integration is wholly unnecessary, I’m only interested in its capacity for digital handwritten notes and pdf annotation. I bought lifetime access for GN6 (I do not pay for subscription), but likely will move away from this app once I find a suitable replacement without genAI bloat. GenAI integration makes me uncomfortable about data usage and it’s of dubious use when I’ve experimented with the built in feature. I appreciated when it was just a digital notebook that leverages my Apple Pencil features

I bought good notes few years back and enjoyed using it. Currently it has stopped importing notebook unless I upgrade to their subscriptions services. When I bought originally it was not the terms and I refuse to pay yearly fees. Day light robbery…
Bugs
there are some minor bugs like text disappearing once in a while and those don’t really matter but recently in the gn6 version, the screen keeps pausing/freezing and a grey square with a loading sign on it appears in middle of my screen. I can’t do anything about it, and i have to reload the whole app mid-writing.

Please, fix the doc structure, I can’t now move the elements inside each other. And fix device heating, I’m iPad Pro user, no one other App makes it heating as a cooking pan

Good, needs performance updates
Text documents when typing get super slow and laggy and eventually crash the more text you put in them on iPad Pro M5. It’s really not even that much, would be the equivalent of maybe 5-10 pages in Microsoft Word.
Needs more colours
Pls add more colour options for the folders. The blue feels so corporate it makes me nauseous.
WAS a good App
I strongly urge people to read the most recent reviews. I have come onto the Apple store to see if there was an update as this app has recently been updated and has significant bugs and issues. This app used to be brilliant and have used it for multiple years however over the past 12 months it has significantly decreased leaving me with no other options to look at alternative apps.

Went Downhill Fast
I bought the app sometime around 2020 and really enjoyed using it. The best parts of a physical journal meets technology. I’ve since redownloaded it expecting some updates but a subscription model? Pair that with the constant pushing for A.I and I’m already searching for a replacement. If I wanted a robot to write for me, I’d use ChatGPT. Really disappointed at what this app has become and honestly want a refund.
