great free gopherspace app

we are so lucky to have a great free gopher client on iOS. this is fast, puny (less than 2 megabytes), intuitive. thanks to the dev for creating and maintaining this, and making it so easy to dip into gopherspace.

Fantastica

L’app è sviluppata bene. Peccato che non sia più aggiornata e sia ferma a 5 anni fa.

Not working as of July 2023

Couldn’t get any pages to load.

Update: working well as of September 2023

Out of date

As of July 2023, this app on recent iPhone OS freezes. Will work for awhile but chokes on links and lack of stop feature means it spins in perpetuity trying to do something it cannot get done.

Yes, it's a gopher client

The internet needs more gopher clients of this quality. Highly recommended for all mobile users.

Crashes on iOS 16

Scroll for a while tabs it will crash to Home Screen. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ for taking the time to even bother with a Gopher client on iOS 😊.

7bit ASCII only

The original protocol had no international content in mind. An update to support modern UTF-8 encoding is very much appreciated. Some Gopher Server (i.e. Gophernicus) do it already.
I used Gopher a very long time ago, with Modem and NEC V20 PC. It’s really fun to discover it again.

Very nice

This Gopher client appears to be one of the few, if not the only available on the App Store. There isn’t much to compare it to. It is great to be able to experience Gopherspace, but navigation can be cumbersome. When loading a text post, going back, loading another text post, then going back again, then once again going back, the first text post then loads a second time. Each previously-loaded text post will reload when attempting to go back to the parent directory. Otherwise, this app is great!

Excellent

This is a nice Gopher client that is easy on the eyes and simple to use. I suggest adjusting the text size in settings to match your screen in portrait mode. The ability to display images is terrific, but I can’t seem to download other file types. Add that feature and it will be perfect.

Works but lacking in UX

If you just care about accessing Gopher servers then this’ll work for you. However it has some frustrating UX/design decisions that could likely easily be addressed:
1) landscape view does not account for newer phones with notches on the screen. If you few pages horizontally (usually formats better than reflowed portrait mode) your text will be covered by the notch.
2) Swiping and gestures are not supported. Avoiding having to press navigation buttons is a huge deal in usability and comfort. I expect it in programs like this as much as I do in a web browser.

Apart from those two frustrations this is a great way to experience the gopherspace.

Good, but no utf8 support

Lots of gopher pages contain ascii art or non standard characters. The gopher client can not show them.

Otherwise it's a lovely client. And gopher is cool.

Everyone should buy this app

I think it’s terrific that someone has taken the initiative to create an app to allow us to use Gopher on iOS. It is very user friendly, never crashes or misbehaves and its a lot of fun exploring the retro net. Anyone interested in retro computing needs this app.

At Long Last!

Pure joy! Best Gopher client I’ve used in years! Phurreal, so much win. iOS has finally come of age! .... now if we could just get Pine and Lynx on board.

Phantastic!

This is your go-to Gopher client for iOS. Thank you to the developers for making this.

Edit: where has Gopher been all my life?

Go Gopher Go!

An excellent journey into gopherspace on the go. The joy of text and simplicity is brought into the touchscreen world without sacrificing the interface that we dig. Looking forward to sharing this app as I add my own gopher hole in the gopherspace.

i love it

use this everyday to keep up with the phlogs i read. works great!

Gopher Love

This client has taken the lead in the race for mobile gopherspace access. If you get frustrated by restricted bandwidth, Gopher is your friend. This app will get you the groovy goods, all the info you need with minimal bit overhead.

Yes, the dev added bookmarks! Still not in folders, but this is a basic help to anyone using Gopher on the regular.

This client now prefers an explicit port in the IP address, usually being 70. I don't remember it always doing this. But just add it to the address after the domain with a colon.

Please keep it up! I use Gopher for regular lookups on Gopherpedia and Groundhog Weather, as well as nifty phlogs.
