Fun App

Really easy to set up and use. Also the confessions are hilarious, I’m always sending them to the group chat

Won’t let you create an account

I put my phone number in correctly and each time the code never arrives for me to sign up to Grapevine. I can’t even get past the interface on the app. Believe me, I have entered my phone number correctly each time.
Seems like it’s poorly made and caused me to worry that it’s a scam.

Safety

Grapevine Uni would be a good app if it was properly moderated. People are being bullied and identified with their social media accounts being screenshotted and shared. At times I’m worried to go out into public, this is a serious GDPR violation and I’m highly concerned for all individuals involved.

Broken App

First off it asks for your uni email and phone number which is weird for an anonymous app. Secondly it has no real posts, the posts I do see don’t look genuine to me at all

Unsafe

Not sure who is moderating each unis posts? Some really damaging and bullying posts allowed identifying individuals. I have reported names being used and on other occasions a name isn't used - but clearly obvious who is being slandered. Both staff and other students. No safeguarding. No regard for mental health. This needs serious looking at. Also very easy to get on a Uni group without going to that Uni. Anonymous groups like this should be banned before some real harm is done if it hasn't already. Would have left zero stars if that was an option. Response inadequate.

Hi Fanspam500, we're sorry to hear about your experience with this. As you mentioned, names are absolutely not allowed on our platform. Regarding your concern that it is "clearly obvious who is being slandered", it is possible to reference sports teams and societies, and opinions and debates may arise. However, directly slandering individuals is categorically not allowed on our platform, as clearly stated in our user policy. If someone attempts to do so, the post will be taken down. You mentioned that names are not used, but also raised concerns about safeguarding. The reason names are not allowed on our platform is a direct result of our safeguarding procedures, along with dozens of other backend moderation processes that are not visible to users. Traditional social media has become highly performative, often increasing insecurity and, in turn, contributing to negative mental health. Anonymous social media can provide people with a space to express their thoughts and concerns without fear of judgment.

Poor app moderation

I was not violating any rules and admin took down my post for the 4th time.
Somehow posts that contains bigoted content, harassment is approved and not removed by moderators.

Hi Tikitac0, I'm sorry to hear about your experience regarding this issue. Due to the nature of the app - it being anonymous - we have quite tight moderation to absolutely make sure no harm or abuse can be produced through our platform. Our moderation is in a continuous state of improvement, unfortunately some posts which may seem to not break the rules may not get through. We can reassure you these times are edge cases. We get over 1000 posts a day to the app across the UK, of these, around 10 posts may get flagged when they do not seem to break the rules. Over time we expect to drive this number down as much as possible. Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention!
