Gravity Sketch User Reviews

LandingPad requirement a total deal breaker

Nearly impossible link my LP account to the app, so there is no way to export a file.

This is amazing

For designing and visualizing a 3D sketch object this app is amazing. I’ve only used it for a few hours but already have solved some problems designing a ducting system for my house. I’m sure as I use this more I will get proficient with all the features. So much better than trying to sketch an isometric drawing on paper.

Baffling UI, and confusing tutorials - VR version is much better

So disappointed by this iPad version of Gravity Sketch, compared to the VR version. The controls are not intuitive. Using planes makes it even less intuitive—sometimes my marks work and sometimes they don’t. So frustrating.

The person who does the iPad tutorials says “this button” without pointing out which button she was referring to (and I can only occasionally catch the momentary flash when she selects one).

One of the live demos was slightly better, as the person at least paused and usually pointed out the buttons he was using.

I love the VR version, and thought maybe I could continue working on models when my Quest is recharging. But as it is, I’ll wait another 6 months and see if the devs improve it.

Full version for iPad?

Hello gravity sketch developers do you guys have any plans to release a fully featured version of gravity sketch for the iPad In the future ?

2.5D Art Easier than Ever!

I’ve always loved the 2.5d art style - and this app has made it easier than ever to create art using that exact style. I mostly main procreate, and I wish this app has the ability to fill in outlines or had lasso tools. Other things I wish it had were those glitch effects like the wave or noise, or stamp brushes, or a clone tool, as the ability to create fast detail is something I appreciate! Other than that I’m sure a Procreate GravitySketch combo will be fun to explore. (Until I become a coding god and than make a perfect for me app app) \\\\٩(๑`^´๑)۶////

Could be a bit better, but still good.

It was a bit hard to get the lines I was drawing to connect. (I was trying to make something circular) Overall his is a pretty good 3D drawing app, and it’s even better since it’s free. I’ll end up giving it a 5 star as soon as I can figure out how to work the curved lines properly.

Frankly, Blown Away

I don’t know the desktop app, I just dunked myself headfirst into the ios ocean with only an iPad pro, so if the desktop app is even as good as this, it’s brilliant. This app works beautifully and does, with just a few minutes of explanation from the tutorial video I watched, exactly what I expected it to. Wizzy Wig coiffed to the max!
I see this not only as a designers’ tool, but as a notepad of sorts for any artist to plan their work. Filmmakers and theatre artists (I’m one) will find it useful. I am.
I’m not a designer by trade, but by hobby, I admit that I have experience with 2D design tools, so I have a bit of a leg up. But, it was soooo easy for me to learn the basics of Gravity Sketch and get to the place where I could just draw and have fun, that I think anyone, professional, hobbyist, even someone who just wants to have some fun doodling in three dimensions should give it a try.

Also, everything I’ve read by and about this company tells me that they are food folk that share my values of cooperation and integrity, which is incredibly important to me.

Not downloading

I can’t get it to download from the app store

Perfect tool for designers and concept artist.

Love this app and all the effort the people of this company is putting to make sure this app is at its optimal performance for the creative community. It took me about an hour to get use to the logistic behind the drawing plane an how to use it. Once i figure it out i became addicted to this app. This app accelerates the creative process as you can create your sketch and view it in a 3dimensional format. Highly recommend you watch the tutorial in their YT channel on how to navigate and how to control the sketch plane. Can wait to see the surfacing incorporation in the next update.

Love this app!

Gravity Sketch for iPad is going to be a game changer. I know I have heard them say they will be updating the app again later this year and can hardly wait to see what they add on top of a really great app. It’s definitely brining 3D sketching and idea creation for artists and designers to an easy-to-use and accessible platform. Love it! Thank you GS team.

Doesn’t tell you how to use any tools

I can’t even draw anything if I can’t get the pen to work 😐

Response from developer

Hi - there are in-app tutorials available by pressing the mortar board icon in the top bar, hopefully they help with getting going. These are also available on our YouTube channel, as well as live sketching sessions to help show creating designs from start to finish. If you don't have a pen you can toggle pen mode on and off in the settings menu (settings>gestures>pen mode). Please do let us know how you get on!

Looking promising so far

I can’t wait to see this app full potential.

Response from developer

Thank you, us too! Please do continue to give us feedback on what additional features will be useful for your workflow.

Wonderful New Tool!

I’ve been waiting for months for gravity sketch to be released on the iPad! I like to use it here so that I don’t get motion sick, and I’ve found it’s been very helpful. I like to use it to make quick mock-ups of illustration pieces to help me with my perspective :)

Response from developer

We hope it was worth the wait! That's great to hear your use case as well - we were expecting that people would find it helpful for quick perspective mock ups to then use elsewhere.

Update created issues...

TLDR: Fun app, but update corrupted files created in previous version, and the difficulty downloading models and the inability to download models as obj limits applicable usability of the program.

...

I originally loved this app. Unfortunately the recent update made all previously created 3D objects/sketches unusable, even within the app. Even though the “new and improved” version of this app has been revamped to attract a more professional audience, there are serious problems. I had been using it for a month or so to introduce my seven-year-old to 3D Illustration and design and had also started using it myself due to the creative potential it provided. Before the update there was no login required. The interface was simple, and admittedly, there were many limitations placed on drawing controls. However, these limitations could be overlooked because of the novelty and accessibility of creating 3D models by drawing. So awesome! The one thing that I can appreciate is that the update features new controls for drawing. The expanded drawing tools and symmetry controls are great.

However, these improvements cannot make up for lost and/or unusable work. Models created with the previous version do not properly load in the current version. After the update, I had to create an account to access previously sketched work, and when I attempted to recover the files, the models were listed but could not be viewed or edited... I attempted to export the models in order to recover them, but discovered that users are no longer able to export models as obj files. This is highly inconvenient and severely limits the usability of the program, as files cannot be imported into other applications. Moreover, downloading these models was not intuitive. To do so, users have to go to the browser-based "LandingPad". The feature to download models should be included in the app itself.

new and fun way of sketching

It takes a little getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it is pretty fun. I don’t know about the previous comments about the previous version, but this new version is a whole new thing! You got to try it!

Response from developer

Hi, thanks for the review and the feedback! Glad you're enjoying the new app, please do let us know what other features would be helpful for your workflow.

3D print is not working

The app is not letting me print my model as per their tutorial. When I go to print my models it’s prompts me “Oops no internet connection “ . This app “as in now” is great for quickly getting 3D print object , toys, parts, etc. With out it it’s merely a game program. I cant wait for the NEW BETA gravity sketch program comes out.

Response from developer

Hi there - the new app is out now, so please do give it a go and let us know how you get on! We're going to add more features to it later this year, so please do let us know what else would be useful to you.

Problem, please help

How do I access my sketch if it doesn’t load anymore?

Claims OBJ export, but it’s not a feature in this app.

The product description says: “Export - By exporting in .Obj format your 3D sketch is good to go for importing into other packages and taking your creation to the next level.”
How?
I’m not even able to find my saved projects.
Please, to developers... If you remove a feature from an app remove that feature from the list of features.
Nobody enjoys wasting time trying to figure out how to do something that turns out to be impossible.
It’s really kind of obnoxious to claim a feature that’s non-existent.
I’d be happy to pay $10 for this app if I could actually export in OBJ format so I could turn my 3D sketch into a more detailed model in another program as the product description claims.
Without an export feature this is a mildly amusing toy to create crude 3D printable objects from.
Too bad it’s so limited.
