Great tracker
All the reviews here are old, but this app is genuinely great. My friends and I have started climbing and this app was a good way to keep us going for climbing. Honestly underrated app!
Add social signin
I really can’t be bothered signing up for this manually during a climbing session. Apple/google signin etc would make this easy to do
Not bad not good
It’s great to be able to see grades and track climbs but it’s not very intuitive to use. I’ve no idea how projects seem to work, for example. It doesn’t seem to register them properly, there’s no obvious way to add them, and probably as a result of it not tracking them properly, in the projects section is gives me no data because it says there aren’t enough. I’m new so I’ll give it a bit longer but I’m really struggling to see the value in paying for this.

Really cool, very efficient
You can find people at your gym keep track of your climbs and it tells you what level you are.
Superb
It’s only fair I leave a review for Griptonite, by far my most used app. Seriously, I have tracked every session over the last 12 months, 3 sessions a week.
The Griptonite platform has absolutely nailed the convenience factor. Using the RFID tags or (more often) using the top down map of the gym to select the problem, I can see the grade, the style and easily log my ticks and flashes.
The thing I love more than anything is watching improvement over time. After the year of lockdowns I returned to climbing maxing out on easy V4s and over the last 12 months I’ve progressed to climbing my first few V7s. Griptonite absolutely shines on showing improvement over time. I had a wrist injury in the summer and It’s really interesting to see recovery over time (it took around 3 months)
The newish addition of beta videos has been a pretty big hit at my local gym (shoutout to Freeklime!).
The app stability is perfect and updates are always solid, clearly well tested before anything gets released.
I do have a wish list if any developers happen to read this ;)
- it would be really convenient if the monthly gym result view table was sortable by the heading (route, grade, tries, points)
- navigating from the gym map to the above table takes quite a few steps (from the map - tap top left gym logo, tap view gym, find and click on yourself in the leaderboard). I find myself moving between the map to this stats page and back really often and it would be really useful to have a way of quickly jumping between these views somehow.
- A rest API. I’m a developer by trade and I’d love to be able to play with my data, but I imagine I’m in the small few that would be interested
So thanks Griptonite, love the app and I’m excited to get a motherboard home setup soon.

Add total grades/ routes climbed
I really like the app in terms of viewing routes but what I want more than anything is to just see how many routes of each grade I’ve climbed. Rather than sifting month to month on routes I’ve climbed, just seeing total figures under progression would be great.
My gym isn’t on the app
Not saying that apps bad just confused as why every other gym I’ve been to is but my local isn’t do they have to agree to be on there because they was a few years back just beer really remember to use the app
Best app for tracking climbing progress
We have been climbing since February and wondered what the mysterious QR codes were on the start holds and how you got your name on the screen in reception. Then we discovered Griptonite and our competitive nature took over! My boys and I love the app. It has been a great way to track our progress and easily find climbs of our standard in the gym. Competing to get higher up the table has led to us climbing more and progressing up the grades. Watching the betas from other climbers has taught us a lot about how to approach harder climbs. It has also been helpful when visiting other gyms using slightly different grading systems.

What it does great but …
It would be nice to see a more holistic approach to progress. Tools that would allow you to log a training schedule and different training techniques along with journaling features to track mood and enthusiasm would be great.
Am I a better climber in the mornings or evenings? Do I send harder in group sessions or alone? Is three sessions a week a good balance between rest and training or would increasing to 4 see faster progress.
Is that hangboarding routine still seeing gains or is it time to move attention something else?
There’s so much to training and logging climbs is great but I feel like this app could do so much more if it broadened its horizons slightly.

i love griptonite
Amazing.
Amazing app, I don’t know why everyone’s complaining. Plenty of useful free features and a few things, like the leaderboard, make it feel more complete.
way too buggy
this app is constantly erroring. filters won't reset. or they won't apply. the UI is really not very intuitive. wish my gym would drop this entirely.
0/5 just awful
0/5 terrible app, do not waste your time.
Update: The only way to make this app better is to just uninstall. Do not waste your time! Why would anyone need an app for climbing it's pointless.

Notification Spam
Just sent me a few hundred notifications within a few minutes trying to sell their pro accounts.
No thanks. Not if you don’t test your code before pushing it.

Weird system
First of all, the way things are reset every month is wierd. There should be a toggle able option on the setter menu to make it so that taken down routes don’t give you points anymore, so you don’t have to redo everything each month. Then it crashes. Even on 8 gb of ram, which shows that it is the app itself.

Works fine until you try to install a video
There’s a problem that when you try to upload a video the app freezes and you have to delete it and reinstall it.
Dissapointing
I have never had an experience using this app that hasn’t been buggy. It’s a great idea, need to be polished properly. Why would i consider paying for pro when the base app isn't even good.
Pay to filter by grade??
Users have to pay to filter by grade. I think that’s a really cheeky feature to paywall. You get paid by the companies to put climbs on the app and then want users to pay to filter by grade? Double dipping madness.
Feel free to keep charging for AI driven plans and all that personal growth stuff. That’s fair.
Also, the app runs very slowly compared to TopLogger I was using elsewhere.
Still gets 2 stars as it does what it is supposed to and the QR feature is neat.

Nice concept but neglected
Tried using the app as I’ve just recently joined a climbing gym, the gym uses this app to track a see routes (that’s what im told) I haven’t seen myself as it is impossible to get past the sign in page. The screen goes white and the green tab gets stuck to the top of the screen.
I see in recent updates of the app minor bug fixes where addressed however I think there needs a major bug wipe on the app or simply change the foundation that the app is made from as I see in other reviews the app has been going more and more downhill the the app’s performance.
I seriously doubt anything will be done from this review. But it’s sad as it’s the only app the gym uses

Idea is good, app seems to be designed by amateurs
The idea of this app is great. I love being able to track routes I’ve done and the gamification of sending climbs can be fun. But the app doesn’t function well. You’ll upload a video beta and it’ll disappear (I’ve uploaded like 6 times and it still won’t show), app will crash or freeze randomly. Really needs better developers and testers.
