Outstanding Addition to the Interpretive Center

This is a great tool to help visualize the area as it was (there’s only a handful abandoned structures that remain today), as well as to provide a more immersive experience.

While I was there another visitor was at first unable to use the app because they accidentally didn’t allow camera access to the app on their iPhone. If you only see a mostly black screen when it tells you to center a virtual guidepost in the box, go to System Settings > Privacy and Security > Camera and make sure the switch next to “Heart Mountain” is on. Android has a nearly-identical system in this regard of I recall correctly.

My only suggestion to the devs would be to detect for no camera access. Otherwise, bravo on such a well-designed project and thank you!

Seamless and Thoughtful app

What a wonderful addition to this site giving visitors thousands of hours of personal site interpretation

Outstanding app for stepping into history

This app adds so much the experience of visiting this confinement site. The Heart Mountain Interpretive Center shares the experiences of the former incarcerees during WWII from their perspectives and this app enhances that experience by giving guided tours from oral histories of the former incarcerees standing in the very spots where the events took place. Highly recommend to any visitors to the site and to anyone interested in this history, so important for everyone to learn about the Japanese American incarceration.

Heart Mountain Tour

This app shares first-person stories told by incarcerated Japanese Americans and their ancestors. They’re great vignettes to experience the social and cultural world of Heart Mountain and immerse yourself in their lives in the internment camp. As a Japanese American myself, I especially appreciate that this app exists to tell this history in such a human way.
