Had serious problems with corrupted data files
I was enjoying the app up until Intermediate 1 lesson 27 (might have been 29). Then the audio files started glitching really badly but I could figure out what the sentences were based on context. Then the app stoped downloading new lessons. So I reached out to the company and they told me to save, uninstall and reinstall. I have now lost all my progress, my coins, my badges, my 168 day streak and my desire to keep trying to use this app. Which is unfortunate as I was creating a solid study habit and progressing nicely towards being able to actually speak Chinese. All my hard work is just gone.

I’ve tried language learning on multiple occasions with multiple different languages and I have a bad habit of dropping what I’m studying after just a few weeks. Chinese, though, is the one language that’s actually stuck with me and I feel that a large part of why is HelloChinese specifically, it’s THE best app I’ve used for language learning and all the exercises and context are so incredibly helpful, I’ve made amazing progress.

I like that there are a lot of basic sentences to study Chinese and it’s free.

Decent app, but the voice recordings will give you credit for correct pronunciation even if you just say blah blah blah in varying tones. Stupid expensive, and no family share. Widget beyond annoying, starts making crying faces less than a day after last use. Constantly directs to try to make you subscribe. The teacher videos are nice, though.
I’m actually glad they don’t have family share, because if they did I would probably have paid for it before realizing how useless the voice feedback is.
