Great battles, terrible story

This is a great game that is worth its price. The battle system is really innovative with a good balance of luck and strategy. The story, however, will make you feel like an eternal loser no matter how good you perform. How bad can it be you say? Wait until you finish the game...

Great Everything But Too Hard Don’t Buy

The premise, the humour and graphics are spot on but this game is just not for the casual player. I get the dice mechanics, got to the last Hydra battle. Admittedly by switching to “fun” + relying on damaging monsters by taking their usable dice and luck to even get that far. Lost over ten times. Played it for hours. Eventually decided it was my ship upgrades and restarted the whole thing. Now I’m doing even worse. How exactly do I get two ships 12-14 health 1-2 defence/attack past 15 health 5 defence worms that can take me out in two salvos/actions? (There’s literally nowhere else to ask this question bc zero walkthrough or forums past the tute)
So I reckon it’s a gamer’s game. Running stats in your head. Having the right build to match a play style.
Because if you aren’t you really need heftier upgrades or an extra boat by the regenerating and action blocking mermaids battle to enjoy it if you’re a normal person looking to pass the time and have a laugh.

And that’s like a third of the way through.

I REALLY wish I could still get my money back. I was too willing to buy just because of the total lack of new games post covid.

The dialog is superfluous to game play…

…and coming frequently in short sentences requiring touching to work through dialog that neither humorous nor really pertinent to actual gameplay. After a while it starts feeling like a slot machine mechanics. After about 20 minutes it starts getting annoying with tapping through the pointless dialogs.

Broken

Nice intro video but crashes as soon as I hit the new game button. Says its compatible with my iPad but sadly completely unplayable. Money wasted.

Response from developer

What iPad model & iOS version do you use? Thank you for your reply in advance.

Nice game!!!

Great 5 min escaape!

nice game

very nice game but the story is to short

Challenging but beatable!

I’m a big fan of turn based strategy games, and this one didn’t disappoint. I had to run through the tutorial levels again after a few levels because I didn’t understand the subtleties of salvos and how to keep initiative (hint- sometimes it’s better to not choose a die rather than lose initiative). I beat the game on “Fun” so now I’m playing again on “Challenge”. The dice throws are RNG so replayability is high. I’m glad I downloaded this one!

This is a puzzle game

This isn’t a strategy game. It’s a puzzle game. There’s no character/ship building. It’s all the same for everyone who plays, regardless of their choices.

Doesn’t launch

Bought it. Intro plays. Crashes immediately on new game loading. Can’t play. Sent an email to support, no answer. I’m on an iPad Air.

Excellent but…

It freezes. I am sure it will be a quick fix though, so it is otherwise an excellent game. The humor is great and the theme is well thought out.

Response from developer

Thank you for your tip. We check out it immediately. Of course, you try to tap bottles with ink? P.S. Use our email, please: contact@redzerogames.com, we will have a better communication channel to fix this issue. Thank you in advance.

Quite good

You could tell this game had a top-tier board game designer on deck. Red Zero introduces a novel dice-combat mechanic, and then artfully introduces an extensive series of levels, with each one presenting a distinct puzzle. The difficulty curve on Challenging mode is *chef’s kiss*.

You know how in some of those classic tactical RPGs, the introduction of characters and the switching of narrative threads makes the combat feel completely different? Somehow this game captures that feel. It creates an ongoing sense of anticipation that keeps it quite fresh throughout the game’s ample length.

The writing is quite amusing to boot.

It’s a delightful game that deserves more attention.

Good effort but broken game

I wish I weren’t saying this, but I’ve reached a point in this game that feels broken. I’m on fun mode and reached sea cones that are just undefeatable. It’s not a challenge, it can’t be done, and if it can then Fun difficulty equals legendary difficulty for this game. Some nice elements here, but the game is broken.

Thank you for your opinion. A summary of the initiative: - initiative depends on the SUM of the dice values assigned in the current turn - the player with the Initiative is whoever assigns the smaller SUM - if the sums are equal then whoever had initiative loses it - whoever has initiative: chooses dice first, fires Salvos first, does Actions first - unused die (die which blows up) doesn't count to initiative (to SUM of the dice values)

Fun Game When It doesn’t Freeze

This game is a fun new take on strategic combat. There is just a critical flaw that exists that causes the game to freeze randomly when switching between turns. Unfortunately, this is not the kind of randomized bad luck that makes for a good challenge and it becomes increasingly frustrating when it occurs one turn away from beating a challenging level. If the developer fixes the random freezes that occur (review is done on ipad pro), then I would recommend this game to anyone that enjoys strategic combat with a bit of character (or ship) building.

Responding to Developer request for info. It has happened on various scenarios, 5 and 6, is where it really started getting frustrating. The freeze happens randomly when it switches between turn phases not from using any abilities, it just during the turn switch after hitting end turn.

Could you give more details about the freeze, please? Which scenario (number) did you play? Precisely if you can, what did you do straight before the issue (you use Undo button, some skill, or some environment effect). If we have more details we will fix it faster. Thank you in advance for your reply.

A really good strategy game

I would recommend this to people who like strategy games. The characters are good, the game makes you think, and the graphics are nice. It can be very challenging, and if you have bad luck you can be screwed over. But, you can win rather easily at times.

So much fun, I just wish there was more.

This game is a blast with its strategic gameplay and its fun lore. I would definitely recommend buying it and trying it out, but I am disappointed that there isn’t anymore to the game such as mini games. I think this game would be so much more if it could have pvp battles or perhaps a way to grow the grow a town through piracy. Overall, a great game, but it is lacking in something more.
