Seems like it would be a good app

It's $40/yr or $10/mo I would have loved to use an app like this, but sadly my budget doesn't allow it. I'll stick with going to my local church for free instead. Was excited to meet people my own age in a place with a better reputation. Maybe in the future they can offer a similar donation-based payment structure. Also, just my opinion, but the cute animation and the feelings-based quiz gives me the impression they are not immune to falling victim to a similar reputation.

Disappointed, but Good Idea

Edit: upon the developer commenting, I went back into the app to try again. The free trial is only 3 days and then you can either choose a weekly subscription or annual subscription. I did the 3 day trial to give the app a real shot. I selected every type of activity to see how many it can find in my area, and the only result was a run club (which I know for a fact is not the only thing in my area). I changed my review to 3 stars in hopes that the app will improve as it becomes more established, because I love the concept. But my true review? Still 1 star.

OG: I was excited to find this app because finding new groups and events in my area is difficult. However, I am beyond disappointed to find that the entire app is behind a subscription-based paywall. The least they could do is offer a free trial so you can see if they actually have interesting events in your area prior to paying. They should tell you this before you fill out an entire profile.

Response from developer

Hi, solo founder here. As of July 17th when you wrote this review, we only offer free trials. We say "no payment due today" as well. You are more than welcome to use the app before deciding whether or not to pay for it. Given your review is incorrect, can you please take it down? 1 star reviews are deeply painful for new apps and for the overall mission I'm working on (helping people everywhere find and build authentic friends). Thank you.

Just an app wrapper around Meetup

Not much new here if you are already familiar with basic events in your city

Response from developer

The goal is to help people that *aren't* familiar with activites in their city. I mean this sincerely, what were you expecting when you used my app? Do my screenshots and website not speak to what I'm actually trying to accomplish? I built this for people who want to make friends they'll see again and need some help getting started. If something is not for you, you're welcome to move on, but leaving a 1 star rating for a solo developer is really disappointing when I deliver exactly what I promise to deliver.

Cash grab

Save you money and do not get this app. They charge an outrageous price just for you to see the same 8 events over and over.

Response from developer

Sorry to hear we didn't meet your expectations. If you're open to sharing what you did expect from an app like this please email me at cj@omgcareer.com because I'd like to understand where we missed the mark and could do better.

Paying to meet ppl is just greedy

This app has a paywall, there’s many other free apps that will do the same thing as this one

Response from developer

I'd like to address the title of your review since I look at it differently. If I can inspire and motivate others to try things, and provide them with easy options they can click a button to attend, I'm making it extremely simply to take actions that (in my humble opinion) can significantly improve their lives by helping them growth, learn new things, and have the potential to make lasting friendships. Or, they can save money by continuing their same routines which I suspect consist of a lot of youtube, netflix, tiktok etc. Personally, the value of getting exposure to west coast swing dancing 16 years ago changed my life and if someone offered me $10,000 do never do it again, I'd refuse. I want others to try things, learn things, and meet their people. If you have ideas for how I can better accomplish that I'd be glad to hear about it: cj@omgcareer.com

Lots of potential

Cool app, I like the goals section and the tips under the events. Had an issue with some of the events being in another state, and I currently can’t afford it. If I could afford it I think I’d be willing to pay $5 a month for the time saved and the goals. Obviously I’m not on the business side, idk how much it needs to charge to be profitable, just wanted to put it out there. Best of luck to the users and the maker!

hi! thank you for the feedback and for the review. we're taking steps to improve data quality & adding more cities over time. right now I'm not profitable, I'm running ads to get the word out but I'm losing money. the main goal (authentic connection IRL) is more important than trying to make as much money as possible so I don't mind for now. I'd like to offer you a free month so you can try more of the activities near you, mind emailing me? cj@omgcareer.com

Good app, but please stop with the ai

I wanted to like this app so badly, it was exactly the kind of thing I've been looking for, but the ai generated character comes off as so cheap and it made using the app very uncomfortable. ai is inherently unethical, I really hope the devs consider adding real art once they make a bit of money...

Response from developer

Hi, I'm a one man team, there are no devs. And I'm not even technical I have an accounting degree and I've done sales. I don't know how to code. But I built something that can help others find their communities which has been transformational in my life (I've been dancing west coast swing for 16 years and now have friends all over the world). I want to make it easy for others to find their favorite communities and find their future friends. A 1 star rating hurts me in trying to accomplish this. If you have constructive feedback you'd like to share in order to make the app better please send it to me cj@omgcareer.com or here https://www.instagram.com/heysammyapp/ you can even see my face in the recent video I posted. If anything, I'd appreciate you updating your 1 star review. Thanks.

Costs money

You have to pay to see any events. Don’t waste ur time doing all the quizzes if you don’t want to spend money on a subscription for it:(

Response from developer

We offer a free trial specifically so you can see events without paying. I kindly ask you to update your review as ratings are really important for a small app developer like myself.

Excellent App!

Great way to find things happening in the city.

In-app purchases

They have you do this whole questionnaire then right as you’re about to dive into the app they ask for $10 weekly…

Response from developer

Hi, sorry you're frustrated by this approach. We're experimenting with free trials or asking users to pay in order to see their personalized results, and the data has shown that people who commit to paying often have more personal success. A lot of what we're trying to build for is people that need help committing to themselves in order to get themselves out there. I understand this may not work for everyone.

Just another waste of 5 minutes

Another app that takes you through a whole bunch of questions and at the end asks for your money.

Response from developer

The questions during onboarding are designed to uncover pain points someone may be experiencing and help them gain confidence that our app can help. My intention with onboarding was to show we care & show we can help. At the end, its completely up to you whether or not you believe we are capable of fulfilling our promises. In my opinion, the app delivers on exactly what we promise it will do: give you personalized things to do near you where you're best able to make friends based on repetition & shared experiences. I have multiple communities myself: swing dancing, pickleball, line dancing. The way I made friends there is through going back week after week, introducing myself to others, and learning with those new faces. I want everyone to have a chance to find, join, and build similar communities through shared participation & repetition over time. Yes I am charging money because the value we're providing is real. Here's a better way to frame it: what is the value of lifelong friends? Whats the value of being a part of community you love? What's the value of a hobby that leads to personal growth and greatly improved life satisfaction? Others believe those outcomes are worth investing in. If you have any thoughts about how I can improve the onboarding experience, I'm all ears.

Wow! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was so easy to use and fun to set up. I loved the quick intro questions. Nothing overwhelming or intrusive.

Perfect for moving to a new city!!!

Love this app- helped me find cool places and events to meet locals and even became a regular at some of the weekly events it introduced me to. Made moving to a new city so much easier!!!

Love!

Hey Sammy has honestly helped me discover so many fun activities and events I probably never would’ve found otherwise. It’s super easy to browse, and I love how simple it is to find things to do based on my interests. I’ve used it to try new experiences, meet people, and make plans way more often instead of just doing the same thing every weekend.

The app itself is clean, easy to navigate, and works smoothly. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for new things to do and want an easy way to get out and explore more!

Perfect for Transplants

I moved to a new city and don’t know anyone (scary!). This app has helped me find different activities to meet new people that aren’t just the standard “join a run club”. I love that I can track the events I’ve gone to and write notes on my experiences. The app is super user friendly too!

Love the concept!

I’m a fan of apps that help us spend less time on screens and more time building healthier habits! If you’re someone who has a hard time putting yourself out there, or is hesitant to try new things, this app simplifies the process and makes it less overwhelming! The red panda as an accountability partner is cute and fun, but the app actually has a lot of practical and helpful ways to help you follow through with trying out new activities and events.
As someone who appreciates productivity/self improvement tools, I think Hey Sammy has a lot to offer and I’m excited to see how it grows!

Great app!!!

super easy to use

This is my app

Check it out I hope you love it!

Highly recommended! Good recs

I’m really enjoying this app! I just started using it and I’ve already tried things that I’ve been wanting to do for so long like doing a pottery class and finding a good meditation group near me that I didn’t even know it existed. Great recommendations overall. Love it!

Easy to use!

The app is very user friendly & easy to navigate! Excited to explore new options and meet new people
