Needs updating

I can no longer start quizzes in the app without getting an error. The app also persistently ends quizzes that I was unable to finish.

An excellent Q bank with subpar execution

I’ll start off by stating the positives: This is very good Q bank with good questions, explanations, and analytics. I also love the algorithm that spaces out questions and offers spaced repetition for maximum retention. I wish other Q banks did that.

However, there a more than a few software issues that need to be addressed both with Hippo’s Q bank in general (regardless of if it’s being accessed on a desktop or the app) and with the iOS/iPadOS apps specifically:

General issues:

Every once in a while a quiz will get dropped while you’re in the middle of doing it (have had this happen in app and on desktop) and then it will show up in your analytics that you got all the unanswered questions wrong. Glitches happen in all software programs, so the fact that it glitches occasionally is not a huge deal, but what is a huge deal is that you cannot then just delete that quiz and reset those questions like you can with other q banks. In fact you cannot delete or reset ANYTHING and if you want to you have to email hippo and then wait a couple of days for them to do it for you. This is in contrast to Rosh Review for example, where you have complete control to delete or reset any questions/quiz sessions you have done.

Mobile app specific issues

1. Please for the love of god allow biometric log-in, I’m tired of having to type in my username and password every day.

2. Please release an iPad OS optimized version of the app. Using it on my iPad is painful.

Essential!

Best companion to long commutes, always fun with excellent faculty

Borderline

- Have to log in every time the app opens.
- Some questions/answer combos don’t seem correct or have helpful explanations (80% of people answering a ‘wrong’ answer without solid explanation).
- Very ‘American’ style questions.
- Not worth the $ (the podcast and vids are great though!).

Won’t work

Won’t actually load questions anymore. Update PLEASE.

Okay, but not great

I like the ability to do questions on my phone, but if I have to pause to do something else, the app will grade my quiz even though I haven’t finished it. That makes it frustrating to see that I’ve scored a 10% or 30% on a quiz. There are several typos in the questions and sometimes the images they say are shown below are not.

App Functionality Needs Work

Useful to have this app on the phone, but the app functionality is far off base compared to USMLE UWorld for example. Quizzes will get dropped before you finish them with no way to go back to it to finish later. Constantly getting logged out between sessions without smart password functionality. If these things can get worked out, the questions themselves are interesting and helpful, but sometimes either too easy or way too hard.

iPhone X support

Great app, would work a bit better on iPhone X if the buttons were above the Safe Area at the bottom of the app.

Works great except....

It shows the incorrect percentage of what users chose for their answer.

Great Qbank with a lot of helpful features!

Whoever is working on this thing knows what they are doing. It's fully adaptive, and I can pick to just answer on specific topics. I highly recommend for anyone prepping for an exam as it is has helped with my test skills.

Game Changer

Finally, leave it to Hippo to fix the age old problem of "dumb" question banks.
