Good app for learning hiragana and katakana

Like that there is an hourly word, it makes it fun to learn. The hiragana and katakana learning sections are great. But I noticed the pronunciation when you click to hear it for the grammar section was completely wrong. They are not pronouncing the words correctly making it confusing to learn.

So many errors

How can you expect someone to learn if almost every sentence has errors? Clicking to listen doesn’t even give you the word , and half the time they mispronounce things.

Caught this in the first 5 minutes …

The Devs Actually Listen

I reported a small issue and the developers fixed it way faster than I expected. They’re constantly improving the app, and you can tell they genuinely care about the experience

Tuff ahh app

Bruh whys this so effective tho

good for kanji

The hourly reminders are lowkey genius. I learn a little kana without feeling like I’m studying. My kanji recognition has improved so fast

The Lock-Screen Widget Is Everything

Having a new Japanese word sitting on my lock screen is lowkey genius. I glance at it throughout the day and somehow it actually sticks

I love it

I just love this app thank you so much for making this app <)

Updates Go Crazy

The developers are super responsive and quick with fixes. Every update makes the app feel more polished, which is honestly rare these days

Incorrect Pronunciation & Doesn’t save settings.

The app seems great in theory but the incorrect pronunciations I’ve encountered, specifically on the example sentences like the card for すぐに, is a dealbreaker since it’s a subscription app. Also settings don’t change which makes it quite annoying when changing your N level, have to change settings upon every refresh.

Response from developer

Hi, Thank you for your feedback. If the example sentence pronunciation is wrong, try switching the TTS engine in settings to the default Apple engine. We are currently working on adding as much real audio as we can to the app. We are investigating the bug you reported regarding the N level and will have an update to fix it soon. Thanks, support@radish.software

Not free

App looks good but you can’t use it for free. There are other vocabulary apps that are available for free that I will be using instead

Great for learning kana from scratch

The Foundations course made hiragana and katakana feel manageable. I could practice the tap-to-build challenges and listening drills in small chunks. After a week, I noticed I was reading more confidently instead of sounding things out slowly. The word-by-word approach keeps me focused.

Short sessions that stick

I like that the app brings one Japanese word at a time with audio and a simple meaning. It fits into my day without feeling like a huge lesson. The sentence examples help me remember how the word is used, not just the translation. The progress and history are also helpful when I revisit older words.

Good JLPT-focused vocabulary practice

I chose a JLPT level and the app started feeding vocabulary that matches it. That structure helps me study with a clear goal rather than random words. The quizzes after each lesson helped me check understanding before moving on. I also appreciate marking words as seen for review.

No ads and offline works well

I tried a few language apps and usually get distracted by ads, so I like that this one stays clean. Offline mode is useful for commuting, and the lessons still load when my connection is spotty. The flashcards and history make it easy to keep working on tricky words over time.

Bright UI

Overall a very helpful app minus some words they're working on, would be nice to see a dark mode version in the future since the bright colors are a little harsh on the eyes at night.

Changing my review they scammed me

This app was great, I can tell they were taking in the feedback and fixing things until this recent update. I have no clue what happened but it will not let me use it. I keep trying to restore my subscription with nothing happening and I see no easy way to get support past to pay for another subscription, which is now more expensive! I’ve even uninstalled the app to see if that was a problem, nothing changed it just gives an error.

It seems cute, but

I really want to get into this app and actually use it, but when I get to the screen where it’s telling me how many words I’m going to learn in a year, the text is too big for the screen or something and it won’t let me scroll, so I can’t proceed. I’ve tried fixing my personal settings and nothing works. I’ve even tried uninstalling and reinstalling it with the update and everything.

Love the experience

Enjoyed the overall theme and experience of being able to learn japanese one step at a time through widgets and the lock screen!

Audio pronunciation is very off.

I got this to learn more kanji. I can speak Japanese pretty fluently but never learned how to read or write kanji growing up. I would be pretty upset if I was learning from scratch and chose to pay for an app that pronounced a lot of the words and sentences wrong. Concept is great but needs a lot of tweaks.
