Charged Without Using the App - Refund Denied
I’m disappointed with the experience, especially since I was charged for a service I didn’t use. I would appreciate a more transparent and customer-friendly refund process for situations like this.

Just to clarify, the subscription includes quite a bit more than the lock screen widget: there are structured lessons, writing practice, high-quality real audio, review tools, and other study features throughout the app. We also support importing Anki decks, so you can keep using existing study material rather than starting over. We understand the price won’t make sense for everyone, though, and appreciate you trying the app.
Great idea with some issues
The lessons are also well constructed. But I encounter a big glitch with the typing exercises. Whether I type the answers perfectly in romaji or hiragana, the answers are not accepted. So it’s impossible to progress.

Vocabulary builder
Writing kanji is a bit messy for now. Your hand is completely free, but sometimes you need to start your line in an exact point of a screen in order to finish writing.
The Japanese voice is incredible! It’s much better than default system voice (like in every other app).
The app also provides basic information about grammar structures.
In sentences you can see what grammar is used which can be handy. Unfortunately, it feels ‘raw’ (f.e. prepositions which can be used as a marker of time or direction in a sentence with time are showed only as direction marker)
It would be nice to see more example sentences (not two, but maybe three-four?)
Words are sorted not only by JLPT levels, but slang words are also provided.
Price is a bit high suggesting only yearly and monthly subscription.
Overall, this app has a big potential and developers are actively polishing it, which is awesome!

The app may be relatively new, but the response is real, and we’re grateful to already have thousands of learners using and enjoying Hourly Kana. Hourly Kana is designed to supplement Japanese study by making vocabulary and regular practice easier to fit into everyday life, not to replace an entire Japanese curriculum on its own. We are actively developing our learning curriculum and have gotten a lot of positive feedback and are always updating it. We also understand that the app and its pricing won’t be the right fit for everyone, but we allow our users to try the app first before committing. Wonderful
For context I lived in Japan for three years in my 20s. That was about 14 years ago and I am living in the States now. I consume some Japanese media but it's not a central part of my life so I passively and casually maintain and increase my vocabulary. I think this is a great app for people who who want to maintain their Japanese long-term. Finally on the pricing I would be comfortable. Actually I would prefer buying a lifetime access to the app. It would be neat if there was a Discord or something else for users.

I would L🩷VE to see this built into all radicals of a kanji and then meanings &readings of each individual kanji in a word listed!
Other than that, the app works pretty well. It’s a nice way to fit at least a little studying in a day without time for pouring over a textbook.🩷
Some ideas for future features:
•more slang and regional phrases
•added human sound bites with different dialects
•ability to tag or create custom decks
And/or
•sort between part of speech and categories like weather, health, science etc for vocab
•listing similar or easy to confuse kanji- this is a feature I rarely see in Japanese learning apps that would be extremely helpful
•ability to turn off romaji (maybe I missed this if it exists?)/only furigana + kanji in examples
Overall this is an app with great potential and an excellent tool for quick study and defeating the age old excuse of “I just don’t have the time to learn a language!”.
I would be stoked just to see all radicals listed and individual kanji meanings + readings!

Also, regarding romaji- it can be turned off at any time in Settings if you’d prefer to study without it.
