For the best results, please photograph a clean, evenly lit area in neutral daylight, without direct sunlight or artificial lighting, and use the results as a guide to narrow down likely colors before confirming with physical paint samples. We’re always available through the in-app feedback option to troubleshoot problems and assist with refund requests. Developers cannot directly issue App Store refunds; requests can be submitted to Apple at https://reportaproblem.apple.com, and Apple makes the final refund determination.

I’m sorry the result was that far off. A light dusky pink being matched as a dark grey/clay color is not the experience this app is meant to provide. Paint matching depends heavily on lighting, shadows, camera exposure, surface texture, and whether the color card or wall fills enough of the scan area. That said, the example you gave sounds clearly wrong, not just slightly inaccurate. Please contact support from inside the app and send the photo or scan details if you still have them. I’ll review what happened and help you get a usable result. Ceiling touch-ups are especially sensitive because shadows, sheen, camera exposure, and warm indoor lighting can make bright whites read much darker or grayer than they are. For the best result, please retest in bright neutral daylight and include a pure white reference nearby, such as printer paper or a known white paint chip. That helps the app correct for lighting and avoid shifting the match too dark. I’m also continuing to improve the matching model for whites, ceilings, and low-saturation colors based on reports like this. I completely understand that no app is for everyone, but “wouldn’t let me do anything” does not reflect how the app is actually set up. Thank you for giving it a fair try and for explaining what happened. What you’re describing is usually not the app “changing its mind,” but the camera seeing different light values across the room. Even within the same kitchen, paint can read very differently depending on: • Direction of natural light • Shadows from cabinets or counters • Warm vs cool bulbs • Reflections from floors, appliances, or splashbacks When you move position, the camera exposure and white balance also shift slightly, which can produce different matches. Using a flashlight often makes this worse because it creates a bright hotspot and artificial color cast. For the most consistent result: • Stand straight on to the wall • Avoid direct glare or spotlighting • Use even, natural lighting if possible • Sample a clean, flat section of wall away from edges and shadows • Compare the top 2–3 matches using the confidence % shown The app is designed to identify real paint colours from a database of 10,000+ shades, but it works best when the lighting is even and neutral.

Thank you for trying Paint Color Match. What you’re describing (functions not working after granting camera access) shouldn’t happen, and it isn’t typical for most customers on the latest iOS. We’re investigating this to identify what could have caused it and to prevent it going forward. The app provides some light instructions for features such as white reference matching, but otherwise the UI is designed to be straightforward, simply point the camera at the wall and see matches ranked by confidence level.
