Great tool

I’ve been using this app almost constantly for work for over 10 years and it’s been an amazing asset. Simple but does what it does very well. I just wish I could toggle the aerial imagery between Google and Apple maps.

FAQ

What is iGIS for iPad?

iGIS for iPad is a mobile GIS application that provides true GIS functionality on your iPad. It allows users to load, view, investigate, create, and export their own spatial data over background map imagery. It's designed for field work and supports offline access to your data.

What kind of data can I import and export?

The app currently supports ESRI Shapefiles (.shp) for both importing and exporting. Data can be imported easily from Mac, PC, Linux, or via USB cable. You can also export your layers back to ESRI shapefiles for use in enterprise systems.

Is iGIS for iPad free to use?

The application is free to download and use with core functionality. However, it offers in-app purchases to unlock additional features and capabilities, aligning with a freemium monetization model.

Do I need an internet connection to use the app?

No, an internet connection is not required to view your data once it has been loaded onto the iPad. This makes it highly suitable for fieldwork in areas with limited or no connectivity. Background GPS usage can impact battery life.

What are the main benefits of using iGIS for iPad in the field?

In the field, iGIS for iPad offers the advantage of offline data access, meaning you can view and work with your spatial data without an internet connection. It also supports over 3000 projections, eliminating the need for data re-projection, and allows for custom data entry forms and adding comments directly to maps.
