Does not download charts any more

Used to work OK on my old phone. OK to use for planning purposes, and as a simple backup while out sailing.

Upgraded phone, restored purchases, and it does not download the charts I paid for. Gets 3/4 of the way through and crashes. Imray have been bought out recently and it looks like the new owners have broken the server. Going to ask for my money back.

Also old charts have never appeared in the archive for me. As soon as the day comes when the subscription expires ‘bang’ you have no charts. Not something you’d want to happen if you were nightsailing through rocks at midnight (but obvs you wouldn’t be relying on just this app would you?)

Subscription

I'm having trouble unsubscribing to this app I don't understand or like this app please delete my account and subscription

Crashes!

I keep on my boat an IPad Mini 3 running IOS 12.5.7, the latest version possible for that device. Navigator was running fine on it but had not been updated for several years. I accessed the App Store, noted that the upgrade was described as “compatible with this device” and ran it.

The update was completed but when I now try to run the app, it briefly shows the logo screen and then returns to the screen showing all apps. I have run reset on the iPad, to delete everything else in order to maximise capacity, and reloaded Navigator but the same thing happens.

Developers, do you have a solution please? I am very disappointed as I had just spent over £40 to purchase charts for a new sailing area. If the update is not actually compatible with this earlier IOS version, it should have not progressed the update, as other apps have on an attempted update.

Seems more focused on in app purchases than helping the mariner

At a time where all electronic charts are improving in quality - this app seems to focus on cross selling. On an iPad the level of zoom is ridiculously bad and it does not even prevent you from purchasing charts you have purchased. I used to love Imray but frankly they are massively loosing grounds

God app but lacks refinement

Good app but can’t transfer routes between I Phone and I Pad as it says it can. Even though it proceeds with the transfer to the other device I can’t find it there. I tried many times but in vain I run the latest iOS 17.1.2 🙁Also distance measurement tool is an awkward to use it zooms out every time you access it and then you need to find your location again and drag the tool there it’s annoying and a bit time consuming.App is quite accurate with the Imray paper charts, which is nice. I would give it more stras if they fix the routes transfers between devices and the distance measurement tool.

Doesn’t even open in iOS 17

Just crashes

Hopeless

So I paid £45 for non charts and just chat stuff. Then pay extra for charts. Completely unintuitive and hard to use. Taken me ages to simple plot a route. Then all the charts disappear on me for no reason. Waste of money so far.

Clunky! Neither one thing or the other.

This app is not a chartplotter as many of the reviewers on here seem to have expected. Better to think of it as a folio of charts that are overlaid on each other. I like Imray’s charts and their pilot books and I appreciate being able to view the charts on a 12.9 inch iPad screen.

However, there are too many glitches for this app to properly deliver a good user experience. Help within the app is limited. I had to go to the website FAQ to solve some display issues.

Most importantly from a navigation point of view, the important notes on regular printed charts are not available, so information on restricted areas or issues where more information is required, simply aren’t available. It’s not acceptable to say that I should go and buy the paper charts as well when everything is shifting to digital.

Where other charting providers are working to provide fully integrated solutions, Imray’s priority seems to be how to digitise their existing paper assets as a rearguard action to protect their revenue.

I rely on the Imray Tides app almost to the exclusion of all else, but whoever planned the rest of their digital offering doesn’t seem to have done so from a real world user’s perspective.

Lacks basic functionality

There is so much missing from this app is difficult to know where to start. Creating a route in a hurry, or easily, which is essential when a course is being given out at the start of a race is practically impossible. The charts don't show the names of buoys and you can't create a route from the list of waypoints. Lazy, ill thought out and basically useless. No evidence that any form of service design has been used here.

Changing phone

After changing my phone non of my subscription charts appear. I have logged out and back, currently there are no charts in the chart store. I have tried to restore the purchase but to no avail.

Great app but course to start

Great functionality and visibility on iPhone13.

Specs claim it offers course to steer functionality but I don’t think it does. Can the publisher explain if it exists and how to use it please?

Buggy - chart sections don’t join up and has resolution issues

The chart sections don’t join up properly. Some sections on purchased charts appear very high resolution and others as corse bitmaps. I am not sure how safe it would be to use these charts for navigation. I am viewing the charts on a 12.9 M1 iPad Pro, so there is plenty of processing power. It is a shame, because this is very nearly a decent app.

Response from developer

Hi, thank you for your review. What you have pointed out is a function of raster charting; we only have coverage where we have paper chart coverage and so whilst we mosaic the charts and set them to display at appropriate levels you will always have a boundary between zoom levels. If you have more questions please contact support@imray.com

Disappointing

Couldn’t get the free sample maps to even load. So I just had to delete the app. disappointing as I use the Tides Planner app regularly

Terrible app. Needs to be sorted

This app is appalling. I’ve tried both the iPad and the iPhone versions. Both have the same problem. Everything works during the registration process, but when logging in the app shuts down. When you tap to reopen, it closes immediately. Come on get this sorted out. Obviously because of this, I cannot review the product itself. It has made my free Imray charts unobtainable. There are a myriad of this type of application out there, far better. Use them. At least they open.

Bought a number of charts and when you zoom in they do not render. Can’t see any detail so useless as is

Problème de téléchargement

Bonjour,

Je viens de prendre la carte western Mediterranean mais impossible de la télécharger, je click dessus, le téléchargement commence puis s’arrête au bout de quelques secondes, une solution?

Merci d’avance

Response from developer

Bonjour, désolé pour la réponse tardive. Si vous rencontrez toujours des problèmes, pouvez-vous nous contacter à support@imray.com afin que nous puissions essayer de faire fonctionner cela pour vous ?

Unwieldy

UX needs improvement. But, the biggest downside is the ability to purchase navigational charts for smaller areas. Instead we’re expected to buy an entire series of charts just to access the one we use.

Response from developer

Hi, thank you for your review. We're currently looking at how the charts may be provided in the future and will take this into account.

Unable to ‘restore purchases’

I am still unable to ‘restore purchase’ ID10! ID70 worked, however. Inconsistent. Unreliable.

Watch out!

I bought the Greek Water Pilot hardback and tried to use the attached vouchers to download “free” Charts 60 and 70 for the Eastern Med. The instructions make it look simple: just download and install the App, then “Redeem the voucher code” and “Download the Chart(s)”, except there’s no link to do that and when you explore the App looking for it, sooner or later they trap you into a paid subscription and $45 (tax) later, you have to spend time and effort with Apple to reverse it. It looks and feels less like dishonesty than incompetence, but, in the end, what’s the difference. And then, of course there’s no support but launching an email into the dark. On the whole, A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE.

Hi, I'm really sorry to hear you have had a bad experience with this. Did you contact support@imray.com for help with this? Please can you get in touch and we can try and work out a solution for you.

Useless

I had some charts of the Solent numbered things like C3 and C15.
They are now well out of date. I thought I was buying the modern equivalent but ended up with huge unfolded charts in a plastic folder.
They have a voucher and scratch off pad to download something on your phone. I got to the stage of a message saying ‘success, you can now download charts’, but I have no idea how to do that and it is not explained. Nothing I press seems to do it.
Totally non-user friendly and a waste of money.
Apparently Navionics is what you need.
