The app is usually good, but I see often the home page does not open. There is message at the bottom of the page „Request contains invalid headers : [x-akamai-edgescape]. Please fix it.

Great news

Truly the best unbiased and truthful news that comes out of India.

Quality journalism and user-friendly app

Always feels good to read IE news and opinion columns - quality journalism and excellent coverage across all sections

App constantly crashing

Recently the apps been crashing a lot. When i try to navigate through different articles, completely different page loads up.

Readable

The Epaper is easily accessible and interesting read, covering my favourite topics of art, books and social history.

Cheating!

I paid a year’s subscription in February via Apple but 2 weeks ago, you blocked my access asking me to subscribe! Again? Sent the invoice as proof of subscription, but the access is still denied. This is cheating of paid subscribers! Why should any would be subscriber trust Indian Express?

Great news

The most honest journalism in India.

Godi media/govt lapdog

The Indian Express was once renowned for its fearless journalism—boldly speaking truth to power and holding the government accountable. It stood out for its investigative reporting and commitment to public interest. However, in recent years, it appears to have gradually yielded to pressure, losing much of its critical edge. Sadly, like much of the mainstream Indian media, it now seems more aligned with the government's narrative than questioning it. With only a few independent YouTube channels continuing to challenge the status quo, genuine accountability in the media landscape has become increasingly rare.

Best content but nothing to read

No doubt, you give the best and most daring and courageous news. Your news are transparent and keep readers updated with the latest headlines without diverting under the political influence. You are really good at this. I am using your app since 2016 and so far it was great experience reading. The thing is, earlier your content was separated between the free and paid readers. Now, most of it is exclusively for paid readers. Since I am only a casual reader rarely reading full story, but still some stories intrigue me and I want to read whole content. But almost most of it for paid subscribers. Hence, I will wait till next update to see if they leave sufficient content for unpaid users. If not, then there is no point keeping the app and hence I’ll uninstall the app.

My suggestion- If you want to keep all the content for paid subscribers then along with headlines, give small summary content for the unpaid subscribers.

Good luck till next update.

Needs more update for better user experience

I have been using the app on iPhone and iPad for past few years , although app’s user interface and performance has improved considerably however it still lacks at many fronts, one of the features that I’d like to be added is that there should be an update for saving articles that can be read in offline mode.

Not a stable performer!

The app, prima facie, appears reasonably well designed but it has many issues underneath. As you scroll up and done, a spinning wheel appears in the middle which suddenly makes the app unresponsive to touch. It still keeps scrolling on its own though, in the direction the user has initiated the scroll. It settles after a few seconds suggesting a serious problem. And it occurs on an iPhone 15 Pro Max. Imagine its performance on lesser phones. The icons on the bar below look childish and unworthy of a paid app. Another most annoying feature is that why should a news app ask for the user’s horoscope? Isn’t it regressive thinking? Is there anything like Astrology? I am shocked that someone in the Indian Express still believes in the pseudo science called Astrology. Print edition doesn’t work well enough. You can’t select the item you want to read. You have to use the zoom in feature of the phone to read the story you want to. Try to improve guys and gals! Learn from the apps like The Times (of London) etc.

Good app, addition of dark mode to ePaper

Application is good, would love if the developers could add a dark mode to ePaper too, background turns black and text in paper turns to white or colour of choice, would really improve readability ease and decrease eye strain.
One suggestion if pdf is being directly accessed while using ePaper, please make the addition to smart invert the colours of text and background without inverting the picture colours, if it’s not possible to make this feature addition to pdf. Would really make the application a 10/10.
Cheers!

Dear User, We are always working to add more sources in the updates. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us :)

So many bugs in the app

Where I like news content from Indian express but this app is full of bugs.

The latest version of app has been launched for more than 1 month now however they have not rectified even the basic bugs. Even last time when the app was updated bugs were not rectified for a long time. I am using iPhone 14 and two of the very basic and most irritating issues are:
1) While clearing 3/4 notifications together app generates an audio output “hello”. Why??
2) On opening the app it does not take to the home news page. It will show first news article in the notification queue. You have to close and reopen the app to go to home page.

Hard to read…

This version is small print. Not particularly well suited for tablet reading. 🧐

Please remove page icons from bottom of e-paper

The new version of the app (11.0) is nice but needs a major fix for the e-paper. When you open the e-paper, icons of all pages cover the bottom 1/6th of the page. This means that the last few lines of the stories at the bottom are covered and not visible to the reader, which is frustrating. Either move these icons elsewhere or remove them completely (they don’t really serve a purpose for readers who read their e-paper as they would a real one). Look forward to a quick fix of minor issue that currently distracts from a great app.

Response from developer

Dear user, We understand the issue and wanted to inform that the page icons gets away from the screen if you tap on epaper anywhere.

Irritating

Just downloaded the app and started browsing. Requested review. Said ‘not now’. Same annoying request every time I came to the Home Screen. 5 times in as many minutes. The only option I had was to provide an honest interim review. Hope the developer is happy now. 🙏
