I regularly travel for work to places where not possible to use normal mobile phone services. Offshore Africa on an oil rig which luckily has excellent WiFi. Wife does not use WhatsApp so perfect for talking to her.

Yolla only seems to work okay if you get connected to whoever you’re calling immediately. If you are out on hold, like it happens frequently with banks, insurance companies etc, 100 percent of the time the person on the other end can’t hear you. I’ve tried it multiple times, with different countries. It’s infuriating to spend 25 minutes on hold and then have the person hang up on you when they can’t hear you.

This worked perfectly when I needed to place a call to my bank in Canada, while is was on holiday in from Europe. I spent 15 minutes on hold from my bank. Once they answered, it worked perfectly. No dropped calls and they could hear me well, and vice versa.
