Finally but too late
After many attempts to reach customer support with no resolve I found a new speed check app called Speed Smart. Free, no ads…does the trick

Ruined by intrusive ads
With a recent update it has been ruined by intrusive full-screen ads, complete with un-mutable audio. I’ve now stopped using it. This is a shame, because when it worked properly, it had a simple, clean interface that gave straightforward, clear measurements of network speed. I can tolerate small silent ads across the bottom or the screen, for example, but not ones that take over the whole screen, worst of all with audio - this is a show stopper for me. I notice it’s now provided by Ookla - could it be they’re deliberately killing it off in favour of the Ookla-branded app, maximizing ad revenue till it’s dead?

Was good but now not
This app was really good before. I find it no longer can be relied on and ends up getting stuck.
