About

With this app, one intends to register on a database the life cycle of invasive plants. InvasorasCV is an app that’s been initially developed by a group of students from Escola Secundária D. Dinis. It is currently associated to the Citizen-Science Platform INVASORAS.PT and hopes to gather voluntary public participation in the mapping of species in Portugal. Invasive plants are one of the worst threats to biodiversity, causing enormous economic losses and public health issues. More information can be found at www.invasoras.pt. In order to be able to fight against invasive plants in an effective way, you’ve got to know them well. Thus, we ask citizens to collect further information about these species. Initially you have to register as a user. To be able to participate and save data for each plant, you only need to select and identify an invasive plant and, then, take photos of it on a monthly basis, geo-reference the site where you found it and determine its life cycle stage. With your help it will be possible to track and follow the life cycle of invasive plants in Portugal. The registers will be analysed by the Citizen-Science Platform INVASORAS.PT (by investigators from the Center for Functional Ecology, the Higher School of Agriculture or the University of Coimbra), in order to better uderstand how each invasive plant grows throughout the year and in each region of the country. Both the initial development of this app and the game were developed by students from Escola Secundária com 3º ciclo D. Dinis, Coimbra, as part of their school activities. Your help is crucial!
