The older Meridian audio products do not come with an iPhone remote. So you have to build your own. There’s dozens of apps based on using the generic Global Cache hardware interfaces, but most are horrible: expensive, or won’t work without a server, or demands a monthly subscription fee, or horribly complex programming, or inscrutable instructions, or...
Well, iRedTouch has none of these problems. Easy to use and you’ll be up and running in an hour. Hurrah!

The 1.5 update makes startup much faster! A great improvement.
I use this daily in conjunction with my AppleTV, IRTrans, receiver and TV. Without it would make the remote control of all these devices much more difficult.

Worst app on an iTunes
I've owned iRed 1.x and iRed 2.x iRed 2 is useless and confusing, and this cruddy app only compounds all the frustrations that iRed 2 brings.
iRed 1.x worked very well once I learned how to use it. iRed 2 and this app are completely useless. I have spent more time than this app is worth just trying to get it working. The author does not actively support iRed 2 and thus this app. He created this app shortly after the iTunes App store went live to capitalize on the popularity of the iPhone. He hasn't touched iRed 2 since...
Don't buy this app. Find another solution - even if it means buying a hardware add on for the iPhone.

My system: Mac mini with iTunes library on NewerTech firewire HD using Apple lossless from CD>Wavelength Audio Crimson DAC > Naim NAC 152 XS Preamp > BeoLab1. Naim preamp, IR controlled, and Mac mini are in my cellar. I don't want to go into my cellar to turn on the preamp and I want to adjust the volume while I am listening. This is expensive but works perfectly for my needs.

This app is superb. I can now controll all of my AV; SkyHD, Sony LCD TV, XBox 360, PS3, Sony AV Amp... All from my iPhone. You don't even need to be in it's line if site, which is ideal for me!

A great app. Does require the irtrans hardware module that isn't cheap, but overall the package is still better value than the harmony multi remote equivalent. Great to have a real picture of the remote on the iPod. Not aimed at the complete av beginner, but if you have some basic av and network knowledge then it is very good.

The best APP if you are into creating the best all in one remote. It's worth buying an extra iPod touch to dedicate as a fully charged remote in your theatre. Hopefully screen jumps will come out for those that use this software to it's full capabilities. I like controlling my theatre with this native app. It's much better than using a www interface to my home control.

Best thing since sliced bread!
The best thing about this is that you can create you're own remote and have the buttons you do use and get rid of the ones you don't want. You can have all the buttons for all your devices all on one page!

Great application
This is exacly what I was looking for in a wireless remote app. Very easy to use once you have the remotes setup. The setup could be easier, but it is not that bad. Would be nice to download remotes (possibly in the future). E-mail to support was quicky responded to.
Does require hardware that seems like it could be cheaper. Maybe when more of you start buying the price will go down.

5) App startup time+selecting remote time+random app crashes kill the convenience/appeal of this

If You Have an IRTrans, Buy This
Yes, you do need an IRTrans for it to do anything. If you have one, this app can make your iPhone/iTouch the control panel for anything with an IR remote. It's a very easy program to use. An hour after installing it, I was controlling all of my home theater equipment and my Mac. Pay no mind to the reviews that say there are tons of apps that do this. There aren't, and this one does a great job.

Its Easy once You Know How
OK so you need an IR Trans Device, but hey once you have this its very very simple to use, anyone can set this up, you don't need to be an AMX or Crestron programmer, buy it, buy an IR trans get it on your network and be creative with your remote control gui's. Honestly I'm in the Pro AV game and although this lacks macro's at the moment and page flipping and indeed button animation you just know it will come, right now hands down this is the best IR control APP for the IPhone or I Pod Touch. If you can programme a Universal remote then you can do this, infact your mum probably can. Well worth the Money. the IR Trans is also stupidly good as an IR system.

A must have if you already have IRTrans modules or want real control over your IR devices
It’s unfortunate that some folks keep insisting to review apps on price rather than actual knowledge. Simply put, if you have a desire to take control of all your remotes, this is for you. However, if you expect to do it for five bucks just go buy that universal remote and be done with it but in the meantime don’t knock what you don’t know.
I feel that I’ve paid my dues, having several “programmable remotes” in what my wife calls my white elephant box. I finally ran across the IRTrans/iRed solution some time back and integrated that into my home automation. Remotes were limited to needing a Mac to run the virtual remotes on.
Along comes the iPod Touch/iPhone and iRedTouch and viola, my virtual remotes are now truly “remotes”. I bought the app virtually sight unseen based on already having some experience with the developers offerings. Have done some initial “browsing” of the App, after buying it, during which time it picked up my current remote with ease. I basically just have one (virtual) remote, but it controls 2 TV’s, cable box with DVR, DVD, AppleTV and a Component Switch. Just a reminder, this is not an app that turns your iPod Touch or iPhone into a remote by itself. iRedTouch gives you control of the IRTrans modules, which in turn activate/control your IR devices. I utilize 2 Ethernet IRTrans modules to control devices in 2 rooms.
In summary, if you already have the required IRTrans modules, this App is for you. If you are tired of buying so-called programmable remotes at 100 bucks+ each time you run across one that promises to do the job of controlling your IR devices you owe it to yourself to investigate what the IRTrans/iRedTouch combo can do for you. You will not be disappointed.
