This app is the best!
Before I found this app I was kinda bad at vocab and found just reading the lists over and over again super boring so I was wasting a ton of time looking up simple words that I had already learned. Then I found this and I can just drill now through the app which is somehow way better. Itβs simple and not doing too much and just the perfect study app for the JACT Vocab.

Incredibly useful resource
Just taking a break here from Greek to express my heartfelt thanks for this very useful app. The best part is being able to use a curated dictionary that only has the words available in JACT Greek. Very helpful when reading through the text and forgetting a word. You don't have to track it down but just enter it in the app.

Great help
Excellent support resource. Now I don't have to make my own flash cards.
Excellent
Excellent way to learn and drill ancient Greek vocab. You don't have to buy the books to learn from this, but I do recommend the books also.
Really helpful!
Great to have an app to practice vocab on the go :) it would be fun if there were some vocab games or something in the app too, but it's already helpful!
Excellent Learning Tool. 2 Suggestions
You can't learn a language without learning vocabulary and that requires either wearing out the pages of a dictionary or memorization. And memorization requires drilling oneself on words. This app is perfect for that. The fact that it is keyed to the different sections and lessons is a bonus. And it's clear, clean, and easy to use.
If the developer wanted to add a couple of improvements, I would suggest these two:
1. Add a separate field that could be used to enter the declension of nouns, as the JACT textbooks do. E.g., 1a, 2b, 3f, etc. This would help the student learn the class to which the noun belongs as well as its meaning. Why a separate field? See suggestion 2.
2. And to make this more powerful, allow some sorting capabilities on parts of speech and, following up on the suggestion above, sorting on noun classes. Sometimes one might want to drill just on adverbs. Or on nouns of the declension 3c. Or prepositions, etc.
For anyone using the JACT Greek program, this is an invaluable tool, whether for iPad, iPhone, or both.
Kudos to Matt Neuburg for a great app that eases learning a classical language, helping to bridge the ancient world with the modern.
Four stars only because of the suggested missing elements.

Fantastic app but include English to Greek
This is a fantastic app I use it all the time for my uni course and plenty of my course friends use it too. However since I am also being examined on English to Greek as well, than could you please include an option to drill in the vocab in the reverse way, I.e from English into Greek also with the definition of nouns could you please include their type that is in the text book, also essentially could you please include the aorist stem with the Greek verbs in brackets, thank you!!!

Give us sound please!
I really want to learn Ancient Greek but I can't cope with not knowing how it sounds. The JACT books have a small vocab, please spend the money to add sounds.
Superb
I've never written a review for an app before because I don't waste time. This app deserves an encomium (which I don't have time to give) but suffice it to say - it is my favourite iPhone app...
JACT Ancient Greek
Fantastic aid for learning Ancient Greek
just downloaded
just downloaded this app and it looks pretty good. you can review words by section but i'm not sure if there's a way to review all words up to a certain section. i'm currently in the 3rd semester of the jact book and this will save me a lot of time 'cause i was gonna make my own flash cards. very nice app.

Great app
This is a great app, which helped me loads with my ancient geek GCSE revision. I would recommend that each word could include stuff like cases and irregular tenses, but overall it is very helpful.
JACT Vocab
Really useful. I wish I'd had this before my exams. You can turn the English on and off, skip a level (forwards only alas), you can come out of the flash cards to a list of all the levels, so you can go directly to any level you choose. Last (but not least) is the word list as shown on the screenshot. Effectively, it's a dictionary in your phone and faster and easier for students to use than the iphone lexicon. Just stroke the screen to move the flashcards backwards or forwards. On the downside, you can't shuffle the pack, which means you end up learning the words in a list. The trouble with learning words in a list is that you can end up by running through the list in your head before you recall a word; so maybe I'll make a few flashcards anyway. I'd like to be able to jump a level backwards as well as forwards, too. These are the only reason I didn't give it five stars.
Should you download it? You bet, and not just because it's free or because it follows the standard text exactly. It's very good, it works smoothly, it's visually attractive and it's very easy to use. I just wish it had those little extras that would have made it utterly brilliant. I'm definitely using it next year, and so are my friends with iphones.
