User reviews

Unreliable

Willing to change my rating on this review but overall this app is very buggy and the only times it works is when there’s no alert considering the amount of users that log into it when an alert is published.

Additionally, we have tried to make a group multiple times and the members of the group are unable to access the group after it have been established. I’ve tried creating another group many times and it simply won’t work.

Please update and fix these bugs

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback. We've made updates to address these issues. Previously, when an alert was published, the surge of users pulling live data at once caused the app to slow down or freeze. We've now fixed this: everyone still receives the alert notification right away, but when viewing the detailed information afterward, users using free version are served from a cache to keep the app stable, while Premium members get direct real-time access to latest information. If having the very latest information matters to you, Premium guarantees that even during high-traffic alert moments. We've also fixed the group access bugs from your review. Please give the app another try, and if anything still feels off, please let us know. Japan Alarts team

Deleting app

Glitchy app - stalls out a lot. Worse is that it raises the alarm when nothing is happening. Deleting app.

Response from developer

We're sorry Japan Alerts let you down, and we take the false alarms especially seriously on a safety app. Both problems have been fixed. The alerts firing when nothing was happening came from a server-side issue that could re-trigger earthquakes which had already passed. We found and fixed it, and that fix is already live for everyone, with no update needed. The stalling and glitches were fixed in version 2.0.3, now available. If you're willing to give it another try, we'd love the chance to earn back your trust. Either way, thank you for the honest feedback. Please stay safe. Japan Alerts team

話にならない

実際に地震が来て通知は来たが開こうとしても一切開けない。何度も消して開いてを繰り返してやっと開けても何も表示されない。

Response from developer

Great app for non-Japanese speakers living or traveling in Japan

This app allows to get alerts issued by official agencies in various languages in timely manner. There is also a function that allows to create a group so that you can check if all the members of the group are fine in case of the emergency.
If your family member is going to Japan, or living in Japan, it will be a very useful tool.

Thanks for your review. Version 2.0 is a way better. Hope you will like it.

Constant stress!!!

This app kept alarming every 2 minutes telling me to evacuate because there was a tsunami warning + earthquake, however I was waaaay too far away. I had to turn off my phone as I didn’t wanted to delete the app, in the end I did as everywhere I went in public it was screaming and stressing everyone out… make it location based… you can’t tell people to evacuate when we didn’t even feel the quake.

Response from developer

Thank you for sharing your valuable feedback, and we apologise for the repeated notifications that caused stress not just for you, but for those around you as well. First, we’ve made an improvement regarding notification frequency: for a single earthquake, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) may issue multiple updates (mainly to share additional information). In the version you were using at the time, our app sent a separate notification for each of these updates. Now, we only send a notification for the initial alert — any follow-up information from JMA is added to the details within the app rather than triggering additional notifications. Second, as for location-based settings, you can register the specific areas you want to receive alerts for, so you're not notified about earthquakes that don't affect you. Free users can set 1 location, and Premium users can set up to 6 (a home location plus 5 additional areas). We'd really appreciate it if you could update to the latest version and give it another try. We'll continue working to make the app something you can rely on with peace of mind. Japan Alerts Team
