About

Jaunt is a walking guide for New York City. Pick where you want to go, and Jaunt plans a route that prefers parks and quieter streets, then guides you with a calm voice so your phone can stay in your pocket. Along the way, Jaunt tells you the stories of the places you pass. Landmarks, blocks, and neighborhoods each have their own short story, spoken as you reach them. Turn stories off with one tap when you just want directions. Going further? Tap Metro and Jaunt finds the subway options for your trip. It walks you to the station, shows your stops on the ride, and picks up the walk again when you get off. What you get: - Voice directions spoken at the corner, with the screen locked - Routes through parks and quieter streets - Stories of the places you pass, on quiet blocks too - Subway trips on the MTA, with walk, ride, and walk guidance - A lock screen card with your next turn and the place you are passing - Loop walks when you want to wander and come back - Save places and plan trips for later Jaunt uses your location in the background to keep guiding you while the screen is off, and your phone's motion sensors to keep you on the sidewalk where GPS is weak between tall buildings. Jaunt currently covers New York City. More cities are on the way.

NEW - Take the subway: tap Metro on the route preview to see walk, ride, and walk options across the MTA. Pick a train, get voice directions to the station, follow your stops on the ride, and the walk picks up again when you get off. - Station entrances now name the corner, so you know which stairs to take. - Each ride shows how often the train runs, so a missed train is never a surprise. - Service alerts are sorted by whether they affect your ride. - Dotted lines join your position to the start of the route and the end of the route to your destination, so a route never looks like it starts or ends somewhere else. - Stories on quiet blocks: when there is no landmark nearby, Jaunt tells you the story of the street you are on. IMPROVED - Your position stays on the sidewalk between tall buildings, using motion sensors as well as GPS. - Turns are spoken at the corner, and new routes arrive faster after a wrong turn. - On the platform, the ride card shows when your train departs, then switches to boarded once you are on it. The stop countdown follows the train you actually catch. - Stories and directions no longer talk over each other. FIXED - The ride clock could run ahead while you were still in the station. - The walk line and the ride line left a gap at the station. - The "I'm on the train" slider appeared too early on the walk to the station. - Sign in with Apple no longer asks for a name you already gave. - Arrival on very short walks was sometimes never announced.
