Just Undownloaded

It has a really clunky interface, and doesn’t automatically detect whether I’m typing in Japanese or English and switch accordingly like other dictionary apps do. Also severe lack of example sentences. Just not for me

Amazing app

全然素晴らしいことですよ👍!

Excellent and very helpful for beginners

This is a great dictionary, especially if you are a beginning Japanese language learner. First off, I have to say the only problem I had was my own fault, and it was because I got a new iPhone and did not realize that the sound on some apps is muted if you have you ringer off. It was working on my iPad so I kept trying to figure it out. This is an inconsistency in iPhone so if you use Jisho (and GENKI for that matter), turn your ringer on to take advantage of the pronunciation help. You will get so much out of this feature as a beginner.

Also amazing: if you are working on your handwriting, go into the hamburger menu, under alphabet there are stroke order animations for both Hiragana and Katakana. You can also find this under the kanji listings for words if you press the little “play” arrow under the kanji. The animation pops up.

Also found under the menu, you will also find some vocabulary and grammar notes by JLPT level. You can bookmark words you look up which will be listed under favorites.

I truly liked this app so much and so I paid paid for premium.

Audio Broken

Audio doesn’t work on my iPhone or iPad. I paid for premium to see if that was the issue but it still doesn’t work.

I also don’t see any change in the app between unpaid and premium.

This is a great app but having audio troubles

The audio works on my iPad, but not on my phone. I’ve checked out sound and speakers on my phone, and they are ok. Is there trouble with that version of the app or is there something I can do. I have a premium account. Thank you.

Better than the website

While I do like the format of the website slightly better, that’s my only criticism. Otherwise this app still gives you plenty of information plus news articles in Japanese for more practice and reading material. You can even make notes on certain words or Kanji and I think I will be using this a lot more

Best Japanese dictionary app I’ve used

This app is good because it recognises the kanji I draw straight away when other app frustrating don’t . Love this app! I’m in Japan at the moment and it is wonderful for a language learner . Well done to the makers of this app!

Top Notch

An app truly geared towards learning Japanese. It has a powerful kanji look-up function and also connects the user to current clips of Japanese media. Excellent for deciphering kanji and great for observing modern Japanese speech. I assume this app is associated in some way with Jisho.org, which is another stellar tool for those who prefer PC. My sincerest thanks to the developers!

Clunky

Clunky compared to website; I just use the mobile website. The news tab is unique but not that useful. I prefer imiwa? as an app.

Great!

I’ve been using Jisho.org for years, enjoying the writing function when you’re searching for kanji meaning that you’re unfamiliar with. This app is REALLY GOOD at recognizing what kanji you’re trying to write. Typically I just give up and search by the radicals, but this really speeds it up, which is nice. It’s a very good app to use while at work. I also appreciate the auto-fill whenever I copy kanji or anything from another source because it makes it even faster. Thank you for this app!!

Completely unexpected

I have always used Jisho.org on computer. I'm so glad that there is now an app! What's awesome is that I got to try and spell or draw out any kanji I am unfamiliar with and it automatically shows what I am looking for! The best on the go! Jisho never fails me

Most useful JP learning source

Super easy to look up for the words meaning. On top there are many recent news which you can choose easy level so that you can try your listening practice along the script(great). Plus more learning grammar on this app. Amazing!!🙏🥰

Great app to learn japanese

I regret not using this app to start learning Japanese. This app is amazing and has all the resources you need to learn it.

Romaji

This app is really good but it needs romaji, other than that it’s a good app. Good work! :)

App doesn’t work

This app just simply doesn’t work; if I can get something past autocorrect (shouldn’t that be disabled in the input window?) it might give me a basic translation, but none of the info available on Jisho.

HELP WITH CAMERA FUNCTION PLEASE!!!!

Can anyone PLEASE help me to understand how to use the 'camera' function within this app? My understanding is that you take a picture of a small portion of Japanese text and the app analyzes it and translates it for you? What am I getting instead? A blue line that bounces continually from left to right with NO END OR TRANSLATION in sight!! Am I misunderstanding this function?!?!?
