Stories are good but the ads are buggy
First of all, I just wish this app would do the standard of watch an ad or two to unlock every chapter. The coins stuff just makes it all so messy, especially when some of the ads simply do not work! All the ads that are directly from the App Store always work, but in the list of tasks to acquire coins, almost all of them open in an actual browser and there’s never a guarantee at that point. Especially not for the coupon code tasks! Those work probably 20% of the time. The article ones usually work, and the personality test ones. But the coupon code ones are awful and the vibe slider ones are nearly as bad. Why have an app based entirely on watching ads and then include ads that do not work!?

Love the app but why no more coupons?
I love reading on JoyRead, at times it can be hard to find a book that I want to read, but I’ve always been able to find something that was interesting. Recently JoyRead seemed to get rid of their coupons that they had on the home page of the app. It isn’t a big deal but it makes it way less affordable to purchase their chapters, since it’s pay to read. It wouldn’t be so bad if there was a monthly subscription or if there were never coupons in the first place. It’s really disappointing that the content is becoming less accessible because of much the coins/pearls cost without the coupons that used to be available.

Love of reading
So many wonderful books with intriguing stories.
So many glitches
Honestly the stories are pretty enjoyable I feel like all of the authors do a pretty good job hence why I gave this app 2 stars but the app itself has way too many glitches, I will have pearls to purchase a chapter and it’ll say I don’t have enough I will go back and make sure I have enough and sure enough I always do. Also the packages seem way overpriced to me. Also if you end up deciding to watch an ad to get a chapter it sometimes will make me watch the whole ad and then it won’t even work, then it’ll make you read all of these articles and things too on top of the ads as well after. Just not my favorite design unless you are willing to pay a butt load of money per chapter for a story that can be 100+ chapters and still have it not work sometimes!!

Expensive and poor customer service
I do enjoy the novels. Several good ones. But even with the $30 USD package you can only read 5 chapters a day before you have to watch adds. Even with adds and special rewards you can read 10 chapters at most. That is not even an hour of reading.
I mistakenly purchased the Shorts package which does not unlock novels. I immediately asked customer service to undo that purchase and refund my money but they refused and offered no solution. So I lost $30 for something I actually won’t use. I am now disputing the charge with my credit card company.

Zero Stars!
I’ve seen so many apps like this with stories that are “exclusive“ but that you have to pay to read after a few chapters and it takes more pearls or coins then you could possibly earn without paying actual money. It’s absolutely ridiculous and a scam! I’d be fine if they had you watch an advertisement in order to read each chapter but none of this click three articles in order to get two pearls when you need 40 to read a single chapter. It’s a real shame too because the story actually has potential. I’m just not willing to pay 100+ bucks and waste all of my time for a handful of chapters. I can get full novels for 20 to 30 bucks for a brand new fresh off the press and popular book in a bookstore, less if I go to a used bookstore.

The algorithm for pearls to unlock chapters is ridiculous
I am completely out raged they took my money didn’t even give me enough pearls it takes so much to unlock them and right now it says I have 45 pears and I only need 43 to unlock the chapter but I don’t have enough how does that work then I have to do side quests what’s with the open 3 websites why can’t I just watch a few videos I am irritated they have great books but the effort is not even worth it overall underwhelmed and disappointed might just delete the app 👀😭🥹😡😤

I like the app but…
I think the app is great the books are addictive the only thing I’d change is pearl/coin deduction amount I had 1244 then after one chapter it went down to 1193 and the chapter is only 3 pages I feel cheated. 🤷🏽♀️

Pros:
- Good stories can be found, some well written, some buried under a lot of writing issues.
- Subscription saves money for someone who reads in excess.
- You offer an audio option! I like the ability to be able to switch back and forth between reading text and listening.
- Completed stories are well labeled and easily found if you don’t want to risk starting a story that may never end.
Cons:
- Some of the books have glitches on the audio side. One I’m trying to read can’t even be listened to it’s so bad. And another was fine until all of a sudden it started glitching, too. While other books are fine. I’m trying a fresh install.
- How is a book with 40 chapters considered a short?
- Shorts can only be read with a subscription and it’s not included in the novel subscription. You can’t even buy individual chapters. And the short subscription is almost as much as the novel one!
- You can only read text or listen one at a time. It would be helpful to be able to do both at the same time. One app I have will follow along with the audio, highlighting the text as it goes.
If the audio glitches can be fixed I’d bump this to 4 stars.

Needs work!
I love the app. Lots of stories to choose from. However, when you offer to us to watch videos to unlock chapter’s, it should be videos that come up. I don’t want to load 16 pages of weird websites that I don’t trust and have never heard of. If I wanted to do that, I would do it on the rewards page. There were like 3 days where I got videos and it was great. Now it’s back to random websites. Please fix this.

ad issue
I love the stories on here but when trying to unlock stories with ads i watch multiple ads that don’t register :( i have to watch more ads or refresh the app, other than that its amazing!
You lose chapters that you had paid for

Expensive
Genuinely charge way too much to be able to read chapters. They sell a monthly pass for $70 which is absolutely ridiculous. I wonder if the money is even given to the writers or if the app takes most of it.

I loved the story I started to read and I thought the idea of using pearls would be fine. Boy was I wrong. I have done various things to get the pearls and they won’t give them to me. I contacted support and they blew me off. Said they would transfer me, never did. I wrote several messages and they won’t respond. Total scam, don’t waste your time.

Doesn’t open properly
I like the start of the stories I find in ads on other apps or fb. However when I try to continue the stories in the app, I can’t find them. It doesn’t automatically open the story and the ads don’t list the book title or author. Frustrating.

無課金でも読めるようにデイリークエスト的な物はあるけど雀の涙…
「早くガッツリ読みたいけど課金はあまりしたくない」とか「あまり個人情報入力したくない」(上記クエストにてアカウント連携やメール同期などあり)って人にはオススメできないかな。
あと結構誤字脱字多くてちょっと気になる。読めないことはないけども…
ここで課金するなら他の漫画やゲームにお金かけたいから、まぁ忘れる頃に読む程度しかできないな

Bait and Switch
The app has good stories but the prompts to read chapters for free uses bait and switch. It says watch 2 ads to read a chapter. But once you watch one ad, it then demands you do 4 other tasks, which by the way includes at least 3 actions per task, to read the next chapter. It’s misleading and feels very predatory.

Scumming
This app feels like a scam. It constantly pressures users to spend money, and coins/pearls disappear without explanation or unlocking any new chapters. Even when I choose the option to watch an ad to unlock a chapter, the app often redirects me to random, obscure webpages instead of showing the ad or providing the promised reward. The experience is frustrating, misleading, and appears designed to push users into making purchases rather than honoring the app’s advertised features. I would not recommend this app.
