Frustrating for beginners
The art is good. The idea is great. The need is there. And I appreciate the thought that went into having a dedicated app for this.
But for people that do not know the notes on the fretboard at least to some level.
The most frustrating part of the whole thing is that if you guess wrong, it just tells you that you are wrong. Not the right answer. So with any string you have to guess a bit until you get it. So fail fail fail fail fail fail win one , then fail fail fail fail fail…
Which is not fun at all.
So I really don’t want to pick up the app, it being so frustrating to use.
The training translates into actual learning though, which I appreciate. But I did not enjoy doing the first exercise on the first string only with the natural notes.
If it was me: I would repeat the question where the player made mistake, and would not move on until they hit the right answer.
It helps if you learn each string gradually instead of jumping into the big red “X” without first telling the player what they should memorize.

Great game for learning
Very helpful simple game to help learning all the notes and far better use of a smart phone in downtime than so many other choices. Great work Justin!

I like the idea to help memorize notes on each of the strings. I would really like the ability to work on each string separately as well. For example in “level 1” you just work on the E string and then each subsequent level adds additional strings. It would be great to also be able to work on the other strings individually. Thanks for everything you guys have put out

Great start
Great concept and lots of potential. Could use a more mature level up system, level tracking, streaks, more stats. Have to deduct one star because the low E string detection is really off, I have to tap 4-5 times in the area for the tap to be successful, otherwise 5 stars!

I’ve been really enjoying this new reimagined app over the last fortnight or so. I’ve had the previous version of the Justin Note Trainer app for some years but didn’t actually use it much. I suppose the new app doesn’t do anything particularly different: but in its comprehensively re-designed format it just feels considerably more addictive and fun, and is therefore much more effective and useful.
I’m confident that this app will enable me (at long last) to really master the fretboard. Thank you, Justin!
