Useless

Stopped working, deleted all of my flashcards

Stopped working after a few days delete all my flash cards. Does not appear to have any support.

Really great app

Loving this app so far. Opportunity to build a deck to practice vocab is keeping me sharp! Love the design, works really well.

Best flash card app

Very well designed and intuitive app. I’m using it for Polish learning. You can create custom word lists and practice them in blocks by quickly removing words by swiping right and keeping words for re-practice by swiping left. App support is excellent, I had a question and they answered the same day. I highly recommend this app.

I put password in that is more than six characters long

It tells me the password must be more than six characters. Did you even test that the sign up process works???? What a joke

Developer response “What is the issue? It is standard practice to request a longer password as shorter ones don't give enough protection.” Did you even read it? I said in the title “I put in a password that is more than six characters long” which satisfies their stated requirement but was not accepted.

Service not available

Wenn ich ein Wort hinzufügen will kommt andauern “Service not available”. Ansonsten ganz gut, aber so lohnt sich ein Abo nicht.

Interesting concept but sloppy execution

The AI images are really weird and off-putting

Useless for learning new words

So I choose words I know, then get presented with them again along with words I don’t, then the words I don’t know have zero context… how the hell am I supposed to learn them? Useless.

Response from developer

Only add the words that you want to learn to your practice list. Each word has a part of speech, example, definition, antonyms, synonimcs, collocations and a phonetic transcription - plenty of context.

Fix your translate

The response i get when i try to translate something

“Translation error: DioException [bad response]: This exception was thrown because the response has a status code of 502 and RequestOptions.validateStatus was configured to throw for this status code.
The status code of 502 has the following meaning:
"Server error - the server failed to fulfil an apparently valid request"
Read more about status codes at https:// developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Status
In order to resolve this exception you typically have either to verify and fix your request code or you have to fix the server code.”

Hi! Should be fixed now. We had a server error yesterday. If the issue still occurs to you, please write to support@karteto.com

Good but needs work

I signed up for a free trial only to be charged $20. Then upon practicing over the 150 words, the app consistently keeps crashing.

No refund

I signed up for a free review to check out app. Was instantly charged $118. Cancelled subscription within 1 hour. Was denied a refund 2x’s. Even if app is good being charged instantly is deceitful.

(UPDATE) No articles for German words

Below I rated the app before the articles in German were added, now that they have been added, I can safely say it’s the best flash card app for German, I love it!

————————————
I love this app and the idea of having that map of words to see progress. The fatal flaw is, there are no articles in the words for German vocabulary which makes it pretty much useless since German words must be learned with its article. If that is included in the next update, I’m pretty sure it would be a big change.

Response from developer

The articles for German are coming soon. They already get added when you fully open the word information, soon they'll also be automatically added from Explore and Word Map. If you see an improvement feel free to add the extra stars ;)

Average

Interface is so slow, membership is very expensive, story feature usually doesnt work

Deck creation needs streamlining

Update:
Lost another star. Continuously I make decks, and then they disappear. Sometimes they show, sometimes, poof, they disappear. I close out the app and open it again, and sometimes they reappear. Other times they don’t. Then I make a new one because the other has disappeared, only to have the original show up in the My Decks list. When I try to delete the supplicants, the wheels just spin while saying “deleting” but nothing changes. If it did delete, there is no notification saying do. Also, inexplicably, it seems the only way to get to ‘My Decks’ is to go to ‘Explore’ first. WHY? These are already created decks that should be easily accessible from the main page. Get it together. This is such a good idea, but the bugs make this increasingly frustrating to actually use this app in a meaningful way. I don’t want to spend hours troubleshooting instead of actually using the decks I have made.
ORIGINAL:
The Explore function is so wonderful and helpful BUT I found trying to do anything with the app in terms of customizing it to my needs, an incredibly frustrating experience. You need to streamline the ‘Creating New Decks’ feature- I should be able to easily create a new deck from words directly selected from the ‘Explore’ tab AND since I can’t do that, when using the create a new term feature, there should at least be a search feature that pulls up a list of possible words for me (Including words from the ‘Explore’ feature to pick from to add to the list… I am a beginner and expecting me to type in a new word in Greek and then add a sample sentence for it, is unreasonable, when the word I want to know is already is in your ‘Explore’ feature .

There should also be a ‘draft’ feature, as well, so I can add the words I want before saving/publishing. I tried to publish one, with two placeholder words, so I wouldn’t have to rewrite the entire description, and only after it failed to save did I realize that the problem is there is no direct way to add from words I added from Explore- I would first have to go in to my settings, create new groups I.e. ‘cognates in English’… and then after creating those groups, THEN go to each word (that I had already selected earlier in Explore mode), and assign EACH one of those words, one by one, to the ‘cognates in English group’ … and THEN presumably I will be able to create a new deck from that group.

That is entirely TOO MANY STEPS required to create a deck for any app…but especially for a paid app. Please allow us to automatically create a new group from selected words in ‘Explore’, which should solve the problem I described above.

Another caveat- the title space is far too few characters when creating deck or group titles. I wanted to create multiple decks of words with the following titles:
COGNATES - English (Identical/Similar)
COGNATES English (Related)
and the same for:
COGNATES-Spanish
COGNATES- Portuguese

This way I could use words I already know in my other languages that are identical or almost the same as in Greek, and ones that are related but not identical/not as closely related. Unfortunately the space allows only some of the characters needed for each of those Deck titles, like ‘Cognates Portugu’… that’s not clear/neat enough.

Could be perfect

It’s by far the best app I ever used. It won’t help you learn languages from scratch but if you need to improve your vocabulary, you can be sure you’ll memorize it faster. Now, like some others said, the biggest issue is AI. AI images are a thing but the translations are also generated by AI, which is a bummer for such app. There is an option to report any incorrect translation, but it shouldn’t be the learner’s job to do that. I faced multiple bugs due to AI already such as words being presents 4 times in my vocabulary list or being complete nonsense. If the budget was used to hire actual teachers instead of AIs, I am sure this app could become the top one on the market. It has too much potential to be wasted like that.

The audio frequently mismatches the text

I’m trying the German vocabulary and out of my first 20 words 3 of the audios are complete gobbledy gook. They don’t match the text in any way. I’ll be deleting the app.

I assume the app has been built on AI.

Great potential

Flashcard concept is great - but it has a lot of translation holes. Ie: Error messages when you try to translate sample sentences for a word, and many words don’t have an audio. So the framework is fantastic but it needs to fix these issues. Of course because it uses AI there’s also a risk of inaccuracy in translations as well.

Could be perfect with a few tweaks

I’m excited about this app because I think it has a lot of potential. I’ve used Anki for 5 years and this might make me move over completely. I love the interface and the addictiveness of it. Having the audio and the pictures and example sentences all really help with learning the words effortlessly. A few suggestions though: 1: improve the accuracy of definitions because I see a few errors and it makes me not trust new languages I don’t know anything about, 2: allow us to tap to unhide translations of the example sentences on the cards for those we can’t figure out, 3: don’t have the app turn off Spotify music while using the app, but maybe just lower the volume of it. I like listening to classical music while studying, 4: have more data/stats on how many words will be due on which days (this will help gauge how many words to start learning per day), and info on when a specific word will be reviewed again., 5: remember to add “to” in verbs to avoid confusion. I.e.: “to play” instead of “play”. 6: (and this may already be a feature, but I’m not sure) allow for multiple cards of the same word for different meanings. In Spanish, llave was listed as “wrench” instead of “key”, but apparently wrench is a lesser known definition for that word. But it only allows for one card for llave.
