About

Kavbatt is a home for Kashmiri Pandit heritage: our calendar, our stories, our rituals and our people, in one place. THE CALENDAR Today's tithi, month and nakshatra, worked out for Srinagar as a Kashmiri jantri does, with the Saptarishi samvat. Every festival from Herath to Navreh to Khetsimavas, with what it means, what to cook and what to avoid. Add your family and Kavbatt finds each Kashmiri (lunar) birthday, barsi and Kambar Pach shraddha, every year, and reminds you. RITUALS The rites of a Kashmiri Pandit life, from Kahnethar to the last rites, explained step by step. Pujas you can follow at home: Herath, Navreh, Pann, a birthday puja and more, with every verse in Devanagari and roman letters, its meaning, and the sankalpa filled in for the day. STORIES AND BOOKS The Rajatarangini, the Nilamata Purana, the Kathasaritsagara, Lal Ded's vakhs, and more, retold so you can read a story in five minutes or listen to it. Kashmir Shaivism, from a ten-minute introduction to a deep course. FOOD AND MUSIC Recipes from the Kashmiri Pandit kitchen, cooking videos, and leelas, bhajans and wanvun. VOICES AND COMMUNITY Hear Kashmiri as our families say it, lend your own voice, and help Kavbatt learn Kashmiri. Share memories, photos and recipes with Kashmiri Pandits everywhere. Every post is checked; members can report and block. We remember: a quiet place to remember those lost in 1990 and the homes left behind.

What's New in Kavbatt

1.1

October 15, 2026

A fresher Kavbatt: • Five simple tabs: Today, Calendar, Community, Kashir and Teach. Remember, Saints, Books and the rest now open from Kashir. • Today: send the day or a festival's wishes to family on WhatsApp, something new each day, and the news that matters to us. • Community: a map of where our families are from in the valley and where we live now; a word, proverb or fact each day. • Teach Kavbatt Kashmiri: sign in and start speaking straight away, ten lines at a time, and listen and check what others said. • Calendar: every festival of the month listed in full; Herath week and the day's headline corrected. • Many corrections to Remember, the saints and the festival notes. • Signing in again no longer repeats the first-visit steps.
