This app is not very helpful
There are free resources out there that are much more helpful. I have 2 main complaints about this app. First, there is absolutely no point in playing an audio prompt then asking how to write that in romaji. That’s literally just English. Second, on the questions where you need to type your answer, you type using the English keyboard and the app automatically converts it to hiragana. But then it marks it incorrect because you didn’t use kanji. But the app doesn’t give you a way to insert the kanji. You need to download the Japanese keyboard onto your phone from the Settings app in order to type kanji (granted, you should do that anyway if you’re learning Japanese). But even then, these beginner level questions are requiring you to have already learned a lot of kanji.

Best in class
By far the best language learning app we have ever played. Cute, and very thorough. Good pacing and retention is also really good. Well worth turning off the ads for. Only complaint is I’d like another chapter of the story. It’s a great motivator, but I ran out and would really like the author to post more!

DO NOT SPEND THE MONEY!! It does not actually explain grammar or anything. And if you ask questions it shuts off the reporting feature. It makes you figure things out. Other features like the voice recognition do not work well at all.

Great app…has bugs since last update
I love this app. It’s a cute way to learn Japanese!
However, since the last update, I found a couple of bugs.
1. I cannot connect to help through the chat box. It keeps saying “Something went wrong. Please try again later.”
2. In the lesson for “Too Much”, two sentences are switched around.

Wonderful companion to learning
I’ve been using this app for several years and it has grown and come a long way. It’s very useful for studying!
It follows a learning path similar to most textbooks which makes it a great way to get some extra practice in if you keep pace with whatever textbook you’re using. Additionally, it’s a great way to review things you’ve already learned.
I love that it’s grammar heavy, teaches kanji, and provides voice audio and pictures to help you really grasp everything
Please continuing to update this app! I don’t know how far it goes but I would gladly keep using it throughout my education

Voice recognition problems
Voice recognition does not work well at all. A fun and engaging program. It is very much helping me learn Japanese, however, the voice recognition consistently does not work. It is not helping me pronounce the various kana. And if I’m slightly off it is not offering any way to correct it. This is a very discouraging flaw. I should have avoided a lifetime subscription.

Glitches
Mine keeps saying “ your half way done” and just keeps loading so idk what that is about but maybe it’s just me but um it work very well it helped me learn kanji so yeah

Muy buena, solo que yo ya sé Hiragana y Katakana y un poco de Kanji, así que fue un poquito aburrido pasar todas las lecciones de Japonés, pero, no es para nada aburrido, y es Kawaii. La recomiendo junto con Wagotabi.

It teaches all the important things, and very well! it makes learning enjoyable and engaging. this app is absolutely so underrated and deserves to be the most popular language learning app. I would recommend this app right away to anyone learning japanese

Meh.
This app is great. For basic vocab and characters. Other than that I don’t think it does a very good job in teaching people Japanese. It misses important things (like adding 〜さん after a name) and the vocabulary and sentence structuring is very robotic once you get past basic x は y です。 I love the concept, truly, but as someone who has studied Japanese for a while and used this app as a fun refresher I would not recommend it to a beginner.

Unknown badge notifications
The icon shows a badge notification, but I can’t find anything in the app about what this notification is or how to remove it. Nice app, but I had to do a search to figure out how to disable badging notifications because of this app.

This was the first app I used when I started teaching myself Japanese 5 years ago. It really helped me learn the basics like hiragana and katakana before I started Japanese classes in high school. I feel like it gave me a really good foundation to succeed in those classes because we learnt the topics in a similar order. I don’t think I’d be where I am today in my language learning journey if it wasn’t for this app, I’m truly grateful. It has been lovely to see the app grow and get polished over the years and I try to recommend it to all beginner learners. This app feels like a childhood friend ☺️

Franchement très bonne application pour bien mémoriser les bases, manque un peu de vocabulaire mais je pense que l’application n’a pas été créé pour ça mais pour la mémorisation de la grammaire 👍🏻
