Frequent and Seemingly Random Crashes

This keyboard has been very helpful to me for custom glyphs and layouts with more symbol acceesibility than the default iOS keyboard, but it's been severely lacking. For one, it seems to be poorly maintained; I don't even know if it is at all.

It doesn't make any attempt to integrate with the design language of iOS, which is unfortunate and disapoointing—there aren't even any in-built appearance options either, so you're stuck with the default.

The biggest issue has been when the keyboard crashes, mandating a phone restart for it to function again. Previously, it only happened if I turned off the screen while the keyboard was in-use, but now, it happens at random whether or not the keyboard is active after locking the phone.

It's highly frustrating and makes this keyboard unusable, despite its advantages over less trustworthy options (like Google's Gboard or Microsoft's SwiftBoard) that I've considered. It's even more annoying considering that with this keyboard non-functional, I don't have any one size fits all solution to my keyboard needs.

Fix this keyboard, please. It's genuinely one of the best I know in terms of layouts, and it deserves more than to become a bug-riddled mess.

We made this announcement in the May 2025 blog; please have a look (https://blog.keyman.com/2025/05/keyman-roadmap-may-2025/). Keyman for iPhone and iPad is only monitoring for maintenance and major bug reports. As for the two issues mentioned above, the Keyman randomly crashes, and the one-size-fits-all solution to one of the Keyman keyboards, please fill us in on all the details at the community site (https://community.software.sil.org/c/keyman/19). We are unable to replicate or fix anything unless we could get reproducible steps from your end. For the first issue, please state the iOS, Keyman version, and possibly the steps to get to the crash, as well as the name and issue of the Keyman keyboard. Kindly reach out to us on the community site; we would be more than happy to investigate this further. Once we have noted down the issues, please re-rate us. Thank you for having been supporting our products!

pretty cool

Pretty decent keyboard except if you leave it open for too long the entire keyboard goes blank and and i have to delete. reinstall, re add multiple times for it to work and this is everytime. very annoying, so hopefully it’ll be fixed

Couldn't figure out how to use unicodes to make a keyboard. Would it hurt to include ANYTHING about how to actually use the app?

Not working with new Magic Keyboard

Dear Keyman, Thanks for the app. I just got the new iPad Pro 2024, along with the new Magic Keyboard. The Keyman English - EuroLatin (SIL) keyboard doesn't work with the new Magic Keyboard for some reason. However, the Keyman keyboard does work with the in-screen keyboard. Could you please fix the app so that it works with the latest Magic Keyboard? Once you do that, I will be happy to give you five stars! Thanks!

Misleading

I downloaded this because I wanted to make a keyboard for my conlang and I had looked online and it said that the mobile was about to create custom keyboards. But the cant make custom keyboards and if it can it isnt very clear. And actually most things about the app aren’t very clear and aren’t explained properly

Requires full access

Without full access, just got a white box in place of the keyboard. Even if I allow full access once, and then disallow it, the keyboard breaks immediately

The app is cool and all with the Ancient Filipino Scripts but here’s the thing,
1 The Baybayin script keyboard itself
The weird things is I can’t backspace the Pamudpod symbol and I can’t type the symbol “Ra”
2 The keyboard won’t load for me on the keyboard itself

Thank you for rating us and the review. (1) There are two issues here. The "Ra" symbol cannot be typed is a legit keyboard issue which should be fixed. The backspace on the Pamudpod " ᜕" requires more info as I was able to backspace on it. Could you post a topic on our community site (https://community.software.sil.org/c/keyman/) providing more details, such as the app you are using and version of Keyman and iOS you are using and example keystrokes. (2) This is a known issue which requires you to allow full access for Keyman to function properly. full access demanded

no matter what i do demands full access to work on ipad. followed all instructions to activate. keyboard disappears as soon as i turn off full access. frustrating.

Thank you for letting us know. This actually is a known issue and we have been trying and working to fix this with Apple. For the time being you have to leave it On for Keyman to operate normally. So far so good

The app itself is pretty simple to use. I do have an issue with the Shavian keyboard that I wish they'd correct. The placement doesn't quite make sense. If I want to make the EE sound, I have to long-press F. Why is it under F? It would make sense to have multiple options under a relevant letter, or to have all the variants of one symbol with that same symbol. Right now, it's trial and error if the letter I need is not one of the main ones on display. Edit: I had to change my rating because of the update. I listen to YouTube all day at work and it uses 28% of my battery. Using this keyboard for literally one minute used 20% battery and my phone got hot. Can't use it like that!
