Greedy

I spent days cataloging my yarn stash after having to move it into storage. I loved being able to see what i had on hand without having to dig it out of my basement. After not crocheting for a while, i went to the app to check if I had the yarn needed for an Etsy order. I was asked to log back in and give them my demographic information… then hit with a $100 annual subscription! You guys are insane if you think your target market has enough money to spend $100 on an APP after spending all their extra money on a bunch of yarn! I've never left an app review in my life but i have never been this annoyed and frustrated with an app. Not everybody wants their stuff on the cloud of connected to and email you can spam for your mailing lists. Stop forcing consumers to pay for a subscription for a service they don't need. I saw they replied to another review with, "none of your data has been deleted or taken away. Everything you've added is still safely stored in your account. The change is about access to functionality, not ownership of your information.”
The issue is, you’ve locked my information in a similar manner to RANSOM-WARE. I would’ve loved to have gotten a copy of my yarn stash to store on my OWN physical drives but why would they do that if they can charge their long time users $100? Don’t spend your money on this app, if you want a community go on internet forums or in person events. If you want to track your stash, don’t use a service for a glorified excel spreadsheet. If you’re reading a pattern, use a free PDF viewer.

New update has so many issues

Why is my pattern suddenly cut off?! I updated the app this morning and it lost my highlights on my chart so that was fun… and it’s also cutting off my pattern. It doesn’t matter if I remove the pattern and add it again, it’s still being cute off!! And why can’t i suddenly add decimals in the yarn stash? My yarn is 1.76 oz not 1 oz not 2 oz. 1.76!!! For an app this expensive I would hope things worked properly. I’m so extremely dissatisfied and disappointed at the moment.

Subscription Management

Subscription was not managed under Apple, which is what I would normally track, and they were unable to perform a refund for a few days delay of cancellation (which I never had an issue with other companies before)

Impossible to contact them

Having opted in for the trial version of the app, it was the impossible to reach them to cancel my subscription. No response to my emails. Meanwhile, £84 taken
from my account.

…. And still no contact 2 weeks after request to cancel my subscription. At what point does this become a fraudulent organisation?

No free option

Even with the free trial it forces you to add credit card info….i just wanted to try it first, very irritating to go through the whole set up process just to be told I have to input payment info

Doesn’t work

I’ve been trying to log in and use this app ever since they took $107 from me and it does t work. Says I’m not connected to WiFi and when it does open it says “no pattern’s available “. Would like a
Full refund

Deceptive

Makes you believe it’s free. And expensive imo.

Not worth it as-is

I opted for the paid version and it’s nice when it works, but that’s rare. More often than not my current projects won’t load when I open the app, and the counters never sync across devices.

Falsely advertised as free with no in app purchases

No in app purchases noted in App Store but the reality is only a fortnight’s free trial and then a hefty monthly fee.

Not enough crochet

I downloaded the app for crocheting as it is advertised on the App Store for both. Unfortunately this isn’t aimed at crocheters at all. There are only 16 crochet patterns and 6 videos- the rest is knitting only, including the stash and needs section/all feature of the app so is not suitable for me. It’s a shame as I like the layout/ feel of the app. Perhaps I will come back when it is fully functional as advertised. The crochet section feels like an after thought add-on

Why hide the cost?

Looked interesting. But why waste my time with surveys and emails before you say there’s a cost? Bait and switch.

Bang not worth the buck

While this is the most aesthetically pleasing knitting companion I’ve seen, it’s just not worth the subscription price. It’s asking a premium price for basic features, many of which are buggy and vague. The store is quite limited, the pattern annotation is equally as limited. There’s not even a basic tutorial within the app to highlight its features and functionality (What does the light bulb even do?!) Pretty app, but $100 annually in this economic climate for a basic app- not worth it.

Response from developer

Hi, and thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed review. We understand why the price can feel hard to justify if the experience hasn’t met your expectations, especially when parts of the app feel unclear or limited. That’s not the experience we’re aiming for. So we do want to share that a major update is on the way, with significant improvements to performance, stability, and core functionality. Making the app easier to understand and use from the start is a high priority for us, and any we we love to get feedback on help@knitandnote.com whenever our users has suggestions for improvements. All are read, and we use a lot of the feedback in the improvement of the app 😊

Says free but it’s not

When downloading it doesn’t say there are in app purchases, but you need a subscription to use it.

Not worth it

The KnitCompanion app is a MUCH better option and costs less!

Useless without paying

I started using this app when it was free in order to keep track of my yarn. Now I can’t make changes without paying $107 a year. Whoever created this app clearly has extremely high self esteem to feel their app is worth that much.

So much potential

A few recommendations for this app to truly be wonderful. One, the option to buy patterns individually in the app instead of subscribing. Some people just don’t like subscriptions and that should be okay. Second, a button added to all patterns available in the app to request it in another specified language. That way the designer can see how many people want it in specific languages and decide if it’s worth it to publish that version. Right now you can’t communicate with the designers via their patterns at all. Also, in addition to that button, maybe a messenger feature to ask the designer modification questions too. Those things the designers could review and potentially offer feedback or even additional patterns! Okay and then also in the pattern details a section underneath the yarn that says what weight the yarn is. That way we don’t have to look it up every time to see if we have a yarn that would work already. Really loving the potential in this app though. It’s def a much better format than the ravelry website

Response from developer

Hi, and thank you so much for taking the time to share such thoughtful and concrete suggestions. We really appreciate you highlighting both what you enjoy and where you see potential. Your ideas around patterns, designer interaction, language availability, and clearer yarn information are all valuable perspectives, and it’s helpful for us to hear how different users think about using the app in practice. Our focus is on building a coherent, long term solution where patterns, tools, and organization work well together, and feedback like yours gives us important insight into what matters most along the way. Thanks again for engaging so deeply with the app and for sharing your thoughts with us. We’re glad you see the potential too 😊

Subscription

I was happily using the free version as a total beginner. I do understand the costs that making and maintaining an app can be, but I think the price is too high for the subscription…it’s sad, I was enjoying having things organized…

Response from developer

Hi, and thank you for sharing your thoughts. We completely understand that the price can feel high, especially when you’re just starting out. The subscription is meant to support the app as a whole – ongoing development, improvements, and keeping everything working smoothly together over time. The subscription also includes benefits on yarn and accessories, which for many users ends up giving a greater value than the cost itself, depending on how they use the app. We really appreciate that you used the app to stay organized and took the time to leave feedback. It means a lot to us 💛

Annoyed

You didn’t have to pay for anything but now Most of the good things on there u have to pay money which is unacceptable if u ask me

Loved it until paywall

I’ve been using this app for over a year now, just the basic free version. Really frustrated that the latest update they decided to change half of the things you had free access to are now be behind a paywall. It feels like a bait and switch.
