Unreasonable subscription for basic features

I got this app when it first came out and used it constantly. It included everything practical someone would need when knitting or crocheting, and was a great resource all in one app. I came back to the app today and found every single feature hidden behind a $9 a month paywall. I understand having a subscription for more complex features, but they are charging to use the ruler and row counter feature?? That is just completely unreasonable to me and I am disappointed because this truely used to be a great app

Response from developer

Thank you for taking the time to write this. Our mission is to help people be creative, and we're trying to build the best knitting experience possible to do that. It takes a team to build and maintain the app and everything around it, so we also have to build a company that can carry it. After trying to make it work for a long period, the free model unfortunately didn't support that, so what we are doing now is working as hard as we can to create the best possible experience for you, and give as much value as possible to make it worth it. That's why we keep improving, adding both features, patterns and other benefits, and we absolutely love feedback on what could be better, and if you are missing anything that would make your knitting life easier. One thing worth saying: nothing you added has been removed. It's all still on your account, and you can still see what's there. If you'd like the full details back, you can start a trial if you haven't used one already 🧶 The Knit&Note team

Deletes counters constantly

Well what a shame, I used to love this app but recently my row counters change values! Whats the point in paying (a lot) for that when I can just record it myself. Very disappointed in how this app is getting worse and worse with each update

Response from developer

Thank you for letting us know, and sorry about the trouble with the counters. That should of course not happen. This should be fixed now. If you're still experiencing it, we really want you to send us a message at help@knitandnote.com, preferably with a screenshot and a short explanation of how it happened, so we can find that bug and fix it 🧶 The Knit&Note team

Greedy

I spent days cataloging my yarn stash after having to move it into storage. I loved being able to see what i had on hand without having to dig it out of my basement. After not crocheting for a while, i went to the app to check if I had the yarn needed for an Etsy order. I was asked to log back in and give them my demographic information… then hit with a $100 annual subscription! You guys are insane if you think your target market has enough money to spend $100 on an APP after spending all their extra money on a bunch of yarn! I've never left an app review in my life but i have never been this annoyed and frustrated with an app. Not everybody wants their stuff on the cloud of connected to and email you can spam for your mailing lists. Stop forcing consumers to pay for a subscription for a service they don't need. I saw they replied to another review with, "none of your data has been deleted or taken away. Everything you've added is still safely stored in your account. The change is about access to functionality, not ownership of your information.”
The issue is, you’ve locked my information in a similar manner to RANSOM-WARE. I would’ve loved to have gotten a copy of my yarn stash to store on my OWN physical drives but why would they do that if they can charge their long time users $100? Don’t spend your money on this app, if you want a community go on internet forums or in person events. If you want to track your stash, don’t use a service for a glorified excel spreadsheet. If you’re reading a pattern, use a free PDF viewer.

Response from developer

We understand this is frustrating, but to be clear on the facts here: nothing has been deleted, and we are definitely not trying to keep anything hostage. Your stash is still on your account and you can still see what's there. If you haven't used a trial, you can start one to see all the details again. If you'd like an export of your data, or you'd rather have your data removed for good, write to help@knitandnote.com and we'll take care of it. On the bigger point: our mission is to help people be creative, and we're trying to build the best knitting experience possible to do that. To keep doing it we have to build a company that can carry it, and the free model didn't support that. We tried to communicate the change as clearly as we could when it happened, and we do understand it's frustrating when something becomes paid. What we can promise in return is that we work on this every day, and we take product and improvement feedback with us 🧶 The Knit&Note team

New update has so many issues

Why is my pattern suddenly cut off?! I updated the app this morning and it lost my highlights on my chart so that was fun… and it’s also cutting off my pattern. It doesn’t matter if I remove the pattern and add it again, it’s still being cute off!! And why can’t i suddenly add decimals in the yarn stash? My yarn is 1.76 oz not 1 oz not 2 oz. 1.76!!! For an app this expensive I would hope things worked properly. I’m so extremely dissatisfied and disappointed at the moment.

Response from developer

Thank you for the detail. This is exactly the kind of report that helps us 🙏 These were bugs that came right after a big update, which is really annoying, and they should be fixed now. If you're still running into any of it, we'd very much like to hear about it. Send a description and a couple of screenshots to help@knitandnote.com and we'll look at it properly. The Knit&Note team

Update is horrible

Update doesn’t allow me to add decimals into my calculations weight and length of yarn. My friend also is not able to see the her chart to her pattern half of it is cut off. We both paid for the year and are both disappointed in this update

Always crashes

I love this app and it would be almost perfect if you could actually access it. I feel like most of the time I try to use it I get an error. Not great when you’re a paying customer. Also hate the fact that it doesn’t work offline. What about knitting on a plane, going through a tunnel on the train etc.?
Because of this, I have started using a different, free app which works offline and where you can also time your projects. I will not be renewing my premium subscription.

Response from developer

Thank you for the honest feedback. Getting errors as a paying customer is not the experience we want anyone to have. If it's still happening, send a mail to help@knitandnote.com with your device model and we'll troubleshoot it properly with you. And good news on offline: it's available in the app since the beginning of July. Knitting on a plane or through a tunnel works now 🧶 We work on the app every day, and feedback like yours helps decide what comes first. The Knit&Note team

App doesn’t work

I’ve tried to sign up and create an account 3 times on 3 different days. Can’t get past the “pick 3 styles you like” stage. Can’t click continue and can’t click on photos.

Response from developer

Thank you for letting us know, and sorry for the trouble getting started. That's not the first impression we want to give. A lot has been updated in the app since this, so we'd love for you to try again with the latest version. If you still can't get past that step, send a mail to help@knitandnote.com with your device model, and preferably a screenshot, so we can find exactly what's blocking you and fix it. The Knit&Note team

Unnecessary

This is a disappointing App. Not worth what I paid for it. Trying to get a refund!

Not enough pattern support.

I started a knit-along using your base sweater pattern but encountered some difficulties. I reached out for assistance, but unfortunately, I didn’t receive much support in resolving my issue, so I will have to frog the project. It's disappointing, as you have some lovely patterns. However, I noticed that there are no crochet patterns available, and some of the patterns I liked are only offered in Norwegian. On a positive note, the app is user-friendly, and the tools in the pattern area are quite good.

Response from developer

Thank you for such a balanced review, and sorry we didn't get you over the finish line on the sweater. Having to frog a project after reaching out for help is exactly what we want to prevent, so that one stings. We're working on several improvements to give you more support while reading the pattern and whenever questions come up along the way, so better help is coming! And we'd love to hear what you feel is missing. On languages: most of our content is already in English, and we're working toward everything we offer being available in English too. Thank you also for the crochet feedback, it's noted 🧶 The Knit&Note team

Fee based app

Nowhere in the description or App Store coding does it indicate this is a fee for service app. In fact, the conditions are: “Try free for 14 days then from $9/month”

Response from developer

Thank you for the feedback. The line you quote, "Try free for 14 days then from $9/month", is how the app works: everything is free to try for 14 days. After that, it's primarily subscription-based, even though you can have a look around and use a few features for free too. The price and terms are also shown before you confirm the trial. Our mission is to help people be creative, and the subscription is what makes it possible for a team to keep building the app, the patterns and everything around it. If there's anything that would make it more worth it for you, we'd love to hear it at help@knitandnote.com 🧶 The Knit&Note team

Subscription Management

Subscription was not managed under Apple, which is what I would normally track, and they were unable to perform a refund for a few days delay of cancellation (which I never had an issue with other companies before)

Response from developer

Thank you for taking the time to share this. It's possible to start a subscription through Apple now, but where it's managed depends on whether you started it via Apple or outside Apple, for instance on our website. The renewal terms and date are shown when the subscription is started, and they're the same in both places. We try to be very clear about all of it. We understand it's frustrating when a cancellation lands just after a renewal has gone through. Thank you for the feedback, we take it with us 🧶 The Knit&Note team

Impossible to contact them

Having opted in for the trial version of the app, it was the impossible to reach them to cancel my subscription. No response to my emails. Meanwhile, £84 taken
from my account.

…. And still no contact 2 weeks after request to cancel my subscription. At what point does this become a fraudulent organisation?

Response from developer

Thank you for the thoughtful feedback, this is exactly the kind we learn the most from. You're right that the subscription makes the most sense when you use what's included: the patterns, the projects, the stash and the tools together. That's also where we keep adding value, with new features, more patterns and other benefits added continuously, and offline support is now available too. If there's something specific that would make the price feel right for you, we'd love to hear it at help@knitandnote.com 🧶 The Knit&Note team

No free option

Even with the free trial it forces you to add credit card info….i just wanted to try it first, very irritating to go through the whole set up process just to be told I have to input payment info

Response from developer

Thank you for the feedback, and we understand wanting to look around before entering payment details. The trial gives you full access, free for 14 days, and we send a reminder email before it turns into a paid subscription, so you can try everything and cancel at no cost if it's not for you. It's also possible to keep using a limited version for free. But to keep a whole team working toward the best possible knitting experience, we do need the app to be something people find worth paying for. We take your input with us, and if there's anything you'd like to see in the app, we'd love to hear it at help@knitandnote.com 🧶 The Knit&Note team

Doesn’t work

I’ve been trying to log in and use this app ever since they took $107 from me and it does t work. Says I’m not connected to WiFi and when it does open it says “no pattern’s available “. Would like a
Full refund

Deceptive

Makes you believe it’s free. And expensive imo.

Not worth it as-is

I opted for the paid version and it’s nice when it works, but that’s rare. More often than not my current projects won’t load when I open the app, and the counters never sync across devices.

Falsely advertised as free with no in app purchases

No in app purchases noted in App Store but the reality is only a fortnight’s free trial and then a hefty monthly fee.

Not enough crochet

I downloaded the app for crocheting as it is advertised on the App Store for both. Unfortunately this isn’t aimed at crocheters at all. There are only 16 crochet patterns and 6 videos- the rest is knitting only, including the stash and needs section/all feature of the app so is not suitable for me. It’s a shame as I like the layout/ feel of the app. Perhaps I will come back when it is fully functional as advertised. The crochet section feels like an after thought add-on

Why hide the cost?

Looked interesting. But why waste my time with surveys and emails before you say there’s a cost? Bait and switch.
