Not for European Portuguese
While the app lets you select European Portuguese as a target language, most of the pronunciation and grammar in lessons is Brazilian. The functionality of the app is great, but when lesson one of European Portuguese has me incorrectly pronouncing “bom dia” as “bomb gia”, that’s a problem.

I bought the lifetime subscription for $99 (turned in to $160) but whatever. I had a long drive ahead of me so I thought I’d spend it learning only to have it shut down after 20 minutes because I am out of daily tokens? What nonsense is this?

Hello. I'm sorry for your experience. Pro learners are still limited to daily tokens. This allows us to keep the app affordable. Free users are limited to 150 tokens that never renew.
When an upgrade feels like a downgrade
I really like the concept of Langotalk, but unfortunately the app has become increasingly frustrating to use. There are still a lot of bugs, and many of them seem to have been around for quite a long time.
The recent language model upgrade hasn’t helped either. The new voice KI sounds very robotic, noticeably slower, and just less natural overall. The updated graphics/UI also feel like a downgrade to me, especially the dark mode, which is honestly quite hard on the eyes.
I’m saying this because I’d genuinely like to see Langotalk succeed. Right now, though, it feels like the product is moving in the wrong direction.

App overhaul makes this useless
I’ve been using the app since it was in the dev stages. I’ve seen it go from getting better to being completely unusable. The new “overhaul” makes this app unbearable. I miss the AI tutors and phone conversations for variety’s sake. The new version has one tutor who doesn’t understand anything and often switches to a stilted and painfully incomprehensible American accent in Portuguese and Spanish sessions. It also erased all of my vocabulary I’d been saving and treats me like a beginner when I’m C1 in Spanish and B2 in Portuguese. What a sad waste of what was once a good app.

Useful but annoying
So far, I’ve mostly been using the lessons, and they’re frustrating in several ways. It’s not always clear what kind of answer is expected - a simple phrase, a longer phrase, an explanation? Questions sometimes refer to pictures that are missing. Hints are useful if you’re stuck for an answer, but then the AI will tell you your answer is bad. And more irritations, which I am learning to be more chill about. Despite that, it’s very useful for practicing speaking, and the lessons are useful. I just wish the developers would actually use their own app and find/fix the problems.
