Brilliant training app

The training plan was great and such good value overall. The app built me a plan, the sessions were really easy to follow and I got so much stronger within only 3 months! I’ll be using for the forseeable!

Could be so much better

I’ve been a long time Crimpd user and was really excited about this release, but I’m left really frustrated.

The plans that get generated are so generic it’s frustrating. You’re not really asked anything other than a vague “what are you trying to achieve”, there’s no further questions about where you think your strengths or weaknesses are, or sessions you don’t like or maybe things you do/don’t want to focus on. You can’t even really edit the plan afterwards (I know you can substitute sessions to something else of the same ilk but it’s very limited), you just hit generate and that’s it! I was left thinking “well how the hell do you know that’s going to be any good for me?!”.

Honestly, if you’re new to training and just want something very generic and cookie cutter like to follow it’s probably “fine”, but I’m not convinced it’ll actually be that effective from a training for climbing perspective.

Absolutely brilliant

Amazing app and constantly being improved. Really pleased I invested in using this.

Really helpful

I improved by around two climbing grades in a few months, going from V4/V5 to V6/V7 while using the app. What worked well for me was that I didn’t really train more, just in a more focused and structured way.

I also had an issue with my training plan at the beginning because of a bug, but after contacting support I got a quick reply and the problem was fixed fast.

Overall, I’ve had a really good experience with the app.

Sent the Proj! 8A at age 41

I just hit a personal bouldering milestone, and I think the lattice training app may have been the deciding factor for me in the achievement. I’ve been climbing off and on for 25 years and never had a coach or followed a structured training plan. I decided to give the Lattice app a try in January of this year because I felt like I had gotten about as far as I could on my own. On the day of the send I warmed up as usual on individual moves and trying links. When I felt ready, I gave a max effort ground rip falling just before the last move. Normally after a super hard effort like that I would feel powered down and my session would be in decline, but I was able to continue giving max effort goes from the bottom and executing better each go until the send. I was pretty shocked at the performance. Upon reflection, I think the 12 week training block I completed in preparation for the spring season gave me the power endurance I needed to send and really made a huge impact on my climbing. I’m excited to see what’s next!

Great value

Great stuff!! Really good interface and the training worked well.

Lattice Training

I have followed a Lattice Training Plan in the past which was very successful. I am coming back from a shoulder injury and I have been using this Lattice app for over three months now and I am beginning to notice improvements in both my strength and mobility. I particularly like being able to add and modify the plan myself if I feel something is missing. Being able to schedule the plan around my hectic lifestyle (and minor tweaks) is awesome too.

The password reset does not work

Tried logging in and my password did not work, and the reset is not sending to my email

Awesome

The app is great and the support on the back end is fantastic. Long time climber. New to training for climbing. Super excited to work with the team and improve my performance.

Amazing app

Really easy to use and intuitive. Does everything I need and presents my data in a nice easily digestible manner.

Latest version is excellent

Came here to write a five-star review of the app and was shocked to see a 2.5 star average. Looks like older versions got bad reviews but IMO the current version is great. There is a superset/circuit function that works well, it's very easy to schedule/reschedule workouts, and rearrange the order of exercises within in workouts, the app looks slick, exercises/drills have clear instructions, logging workouts is easy and fast and intuitive, and there is a history of all your logged workouts so you can track progress and refer to old notes. I think it's still in beta, technically, so it's even more impressive.

If I could add a feature or two, I'd like to be able to add my own exercises to workouts, not just the ones prescribed or created by lattice. Also on my iPhone there is a glitch where the timer interferes with my other audio like music or podcasts. Fixing those two would make it absolutely flawless for my needs, but even still I think five stars are well-earned. Update: audio is fixed!!

By far the best app for climbing — and the smartest way to train for it

Lattice Training is exactly the kind of app climbers have been waiting for: thoughtful, well-designed and clearly built by people who understand climbing and training. The UI is clean and intuitive, the training concept is smart (progressive, varied and easy to follow), and the fact that Lattice makes the app available to customers of its course subscriptions (including A Climber’s Guide to Training) at no extra cost is a very generous touch.

That said, it isn’t perfect. Small bugs pop up from time to time and I noticed some exercises and whole workouts appear more than once. The workout library is already large and useful, but it could be even richer — more unique exercises and a bigger database would take the app from great to exceptional. One practical improvement: a dedicated “Lattice Choice” section that contains only the exercises/workouts Lattice recommends for a climber’s current level (clearly filtered by ability). Another highly useful feature would be the ability for users to build their own custom workouts by combining existing exercises — that would make the app far more flexible for tailored training sessions. With that curated list, a custom-workout builder, and some deduplication, the app would become far easier to navigate and even more powerful for focused progress.

Pros
• Excellent design and user experience.
• Training philosophy and programming feel expert-level and practical.
• App access included for customers of Lattice’s course subscriptions — a generous perk.

Cons
• Occasional small bugs.
• Duplicate exercises/workouts clutter the library.
• Database could be larger and more varied.
• No built-in custom-workout builder yet.

Bottom line: Lattice Training already delivers huge value, especially for subscribers to Lattice’s course offerings. If they iron out the bugs, clean up duplicates, add a curated “Lattice Choice” area tailored to each level, and let users combine exercises into their own workouts, the app on its own would easily be worth more than the current bundle. Highly recommended for any serious climber who wants a practical, well-crafted training tool.

Response from developer

Thanks so much for your thoughtful and detailed review! 🙌 Duplicate sessions should be fixed early in the new year — we really appreciate your patience while we work on that. We’ve also got some exciting updates coming soon that will make sessions even richer and more tailored to you. We love your suggestion about curating sessions by level — that’s exactly the kind of feedback that helps us keep improving. And if you spot any bugs along the way, please let us know via the Help & Support section in your profile in-app. We work hard to fix anything that’s flagged. We’re excited to keep bringing you new features, so please keep sharing your experience. Thanks again for being part of the Lattice community! 💪

Turns off Spotify Music

Ever since I updated my IOS, the lattice training app turns off my Spotify music.

Super Trainingsapp

I really love the app. If you get used to the surface and know how to schedule everything I think it is one of the best apps on the market.
They are working a lot on a new update that makes it hopefully possible to define sets and reps on your own. If they make this happen there is absolutely no reason to give this app a go and see progress in your climbing goals. Thanks lattice!

Thanks so much for your great review! The team are still working hard on that update, so you can edit the sets and reps. Thanks so much for your patience on that one. Happy training!

Hard to figure out.

I expected to just be given daily work outs. This happened the first week and now week two…? Not sure if I just don’t get what I am supposed to do. Also found instructions are long and complicated so I really have to spend a lot of time reading the instructions before I start. Hoping it’s just user error because the exercises and video examples are good.

So psyched with the developers effort on this app.

Need circuit function

Love the training and Lattice, the the app desperately needs a circuit function. Not being able to do multiple exercises in a circuit makes it a really clunky experience.

Lattice good but app flawed

The ideas here are good but the UX is rough:
- it’s unintuitive to find videos
- you can’t switch between exercises in your rest breaks (stretching and strength for example make good pairs)
- some exercises are unnecessarily nested together
- some exercises are supposed to be done multiple times but thats not the “set” count, its just listed in the description
- you should be able to watch the instructional video and read the description while the timer runs

Great training plan!

While it was sometimes a bit tricky to keep up the momentum, there is zero question about the effectiveness of the plan on my climbing. It helped me break through the plateau I was stuck at, and I was even able to grab my first 7A.. Most importantly it got me to (finally) add some structure to my gym visits, and forced me to puzzle a training routine into everyday life. It was great to do this with a buddy (who also made gains), and some of my mates were impressed enough with the progress that they have also signed up for the program.
