Efficient, simple, effective

I paid $4 for something I use every show as a regular actor. I just landed two featured roles in a row and had over 80 lines each role, so I needed to memorize during a full time school, part time work schedule. My commutes were the best times to just put on my headphones and listen to my lines. The versatility in allowing you to put gaps where your lines are is a super nice feature as well. Love, love, love!

Amazing

Honestly has been a game changer for my career. Best memorization app ever. I’ve tried a couple but this is by far the best. Most versatile while still being simple. It is perfect! I also never write reviews for things!

Does not take pdf files

False impression … buyer beware

Repeat User

I’ve used this app to learn lines on multiple plays (The Pillowman, Doubt, and more) and it’s been a life saver. It may seem tedious to record every characters lines but it’s an invaluable part of the process of learning the play. Once recorded you can run lines in the car or on a run. I can’t imagine tackling another production without using this app.

Fantastic! Total game changer...

An absolute necessity--I LOVE this app! Easy to use, easy to program and customize, easy to share with other cast members--totally worth the $4! I'm off-book in no time! I use it for auditions, productions, character notes, etc. and share across my devices. It's wonderful!!

Incredible tool for actors, students or professional.

I use this app for almost every show that I do. For line heavy shows it is invaluable, especially in shows where you have lines that are just slightly different from each other so really the only effective way to memorize them is repetition. This app is perfect for that. The only thing that would help me is if we could have a few more colors to label characters and possibly a few more images inside of the color labels. Maybe an abstract shape or something that looks like an animal for more variation of characters. As we move into working with more materials, that includes non-binary characters. It would be nice that represents that in the tabs. Please tell everyone about this app. It is well worth the five dollars.

I owe this App Money!

I use this app SO often. I actually feel like I should have paid more for it than I did given the VALUE I get from it. It is an invaluable part of my Actor tool kit. I use it for both audition and on set prep. The features are perfect- the rehearsal and repetition options to toggle on and off are invaluable. I’m just praying it doesn’t disappear one day because I don’t know how I would work without it!!

Superb

I am neurodivergent and have always struggled with line learning but this app was fantastic. I could change the way I was learning as my confidence with the lines increased. I would highly recommend it.

Wayyyy better than other line learning apps

I switched to this from Cold Read and wow… this is so much better. More features, more stable, less expensive. Thank you LineLearner!!

Glitchiest app I’ve ever used

How does this app get a 4.4?! (Probably because actors using it don’t know any better, unfortunately.)
The audio technology used in this app has got to be at least 20 years old. I work in digital audio and can tell you that there are numerous ways to change the sound of a human voice besides just speeding it up or slowing it down.
As for just a few of the many glitches - doesn’t play well while other apps are in use, volume is all over the place, ends of sentences get clipped (one of the updates claims this was fixed), stops when you open your phone, - I could go on.
There really isn’t much advantage to using this app over using the voice memo function on your phone and just creating character voices the old fashioned way. The only advantage is that Linelearner automatically loops back to the top of your scene or play/show/script. (Not worth the headache)
I’m old enough that I don’t mind paying for an app. I actually bought this one because I figured the free apps must be awful.
I hope the developer will look into some of the current audio and coding technology going forward. I got so frustrated with all the glitches and bugs every time I attempt to use it that I gave up on it.
I had to write this review as a catharsis. J/k.

I tell everyone about this app

This is a game changer for learning lines. Sure - you have to add the dialogue but otherwise, this app is amazing. After uploading the dialogue using the different characters, I listen to my scenes over and over (while running, while cooking, while walking my dogs). In this way, I’m learning naturally.
It’s easy to use and the one time I had a question, the developer got back to me promptly. If there is a version to upload a pdf, it would be perfect.

Bad App

I purchased the app and here I am 30 minutes later… STILL have no idea how to get my actual script into the app.

How do you fail this bad with an app?

Recurring Audio Issues

LineLearner was my go to Line learning app until recently, with recurring audio issues, namely audio level very low to barely audible. I have reinstalled the app, checked access to microphone etc to no avail. All happened since changing my phone to an Iphone 16 pro max IOS 18.6

Buggy at this time ‘25

I’m running it on my iPhone 11 Pro Max and it has been very unreliable this year. I use it to play back lines, start/stopping but it gets ‘stuck’ on one line and won’t move to the next. It’s agony.

Voices and Lines Cut Out

I’ve been using this app for almost a year now and I’ve been having major problems with it. When it works, it works great but so much of the time lines are just not said or skipped over. This makes it very hard to learn lines. I tried to report it as a bug, but there’s no way to contact support for this app.

Unfortunately unintuitive

Downloaded and tried to upload a script to rehearse with, but the unintuitive interface was frustrating.

Isn't there a function to erase all the lines?

Perfect for actors

I’ve been professional for 7 years now and this app has honestly changed the way I learn lines, thank you !

Learn at your own pace.

There needs to be a setting where there’s a gap and then you prompt the line of the other people in the scene to speak so that you have time to learn your lines at your own pace entirely.

Good, but… (Or is it my device?)

A really good and useful app, but… I’ve studied the instructions and tweaked the settings every which way, but I can’t make it leave a gap either before or after each of my lines when I use it on an Apple iPad. No such problem on an iPhone. Is there a bug that causes it to behave this way on an iPad, or is it just my device playing up?
