LingQ Impressions

The LingQ concept is great, although the implementation is somewhat rough at best. The AI quality ranges from very poor to almost okay. Translations can range from being completely off base and marginally correct to good. The AI pronunciation is not infrequently absolutely terrible, and sometimes inaudible. I keep using it because it is the only software package of its kind and despite the shortcomings, I am learning a lot. Please work on making the software as amazingly fantastic as it can be.

Outstanding resource

I find LINQ an invaluable addition
to my language learning journey.

Love this App!

I use LingQ all the time for learning languages. The mini stories are an excellent resource for learning and consolidating early vocabulary. After that you can import your own content which is a fantastic motivator. Thank you!

LingQ Mandarin Chinese HSK1 course quite good

It took me a while until I fully appreciated how good the LingQ Mandarin Chinese HSK 1 course is. I use LingQ in conjunction with four additional mobile apps: 2 specifically designed to teach Pinyin, one behind a payroll called Hello Chinese and a 4th for individual Chinese characters called Hanly. I pay for a yearly subscription to LingQ and appreciate it more and more, the more I use it. It goes without saying that I am a huge fan of polyglot Steve Kaufman.

Fraud

Charged me even after I canceled.

Three cheers for Lingq from a Mandarin learner

LingQ comprehensible input materials and format are superb. Very grateful for this useful tool!

Confusing

There is no path. They just throw a lot of content at you. I’ve also found vocabulary errors and in German it is imperative to learn the article with the noun, but they do not include the article in the flashcards. Speaking of the flashcards they frequently show the same information on both sides of the flash card so they already give you the answer but making the flash card worthless.

Fantastic tool.

The app provides an enormous variety of content and can be used in numerous ways to suit the need of the moment. The learner only has to commit the time.

- This was a comment automatically generated by AI. It's reasonably accurate, though, so I used it.

Feels effective

This app is the most effective mobile app for learning language that I have found so far. The context contained in the stories makes it easier to intuitively understand words, and then the spaced retrieval system for practicing vocabulary augments this.

Most effective language learning app

Very effective, so long as you put in the work.

Best language learning app I’ve come across.

I’m a serious student of learning languages. This is the app I’ve been waiting for for years. If you want to play games, look for another app. If you want to learn languages, this will truly help you greatly. To the developers, well done and thank you!

Best Reading source I’ve found

I am reading everyday things that I enjoy on this app. This is the best app I’ve ever used.

Best language learning app by far

More than worth the money for serious language learners.

Comparison to DuoLingo

I think DuoLingo is a good app but LingQ is better because it is more immersive. The lesson have more complex word formation but the repetitions of the words creat better learning.

The best

Literally the best language learning app I’ve ever known

LingQ to learn Ukrainian…Just start here…with LingQ!

I should have started using LingQ from the start of my Ukrainian studies. I always find using LingQ to be a better learning tool than every other app; sounding out words as I am reading them is a necessary step to fluency, since I am a visual learner.

Slow beginnings are just “a click away” as you find yourself learning step by step, while being supported by built-in LingQ’s robust language integration.

Simple page and specific lesson oriented vocabulary review tools, not found anywhere else help you focus on the content you see and hear.

Other game type apps are ok for picture to word vocabulary learning, but LingQ puts it all together.

So much thought has been put into the creation of LingQ, that I keep coming back to it day after day!

Buggy interface when editing definitions.

Really does more than annoying me at times when editing definitions either get: self undo when I finished editing it or keyboard disappear suddenly mid editing and I accidentally delete the word definition. Not to mention some words in Cantonese, the pronunciation are just wrong, noticeably it’s one of the most common words 咁 (gam3) being pronounced as (gam2). Minor but annoying, overall still beats Duolingo lol.

There’s nothing better, but it needs real improvements

There is no better app for reading ebooks and listening to podcast audio in a foreign language. The interface for tapping one or more words then fetching a word’s transcription, for both its dictionary definition and both in-context definition, and saving it, is unparalleled. But why does it take so long to load? Why is the app’s upload interface so glitchy compared to the one on the Web? Why can’t it auto-scroll in the same interface with the click-to-translate? Why doesn’t it make an attempt to count or save word stems? I really wish this app were just a little better.

An amazing tool for learning languages in a freeing way. There’s everything you need to become a competent student in another language or two ! Revolutionary ! Still the best content & fun!
